Hey all,
I have a question about how to be a "master" in galaxy editor, what i mean is that people who is so awesome with the galaxy editor that they can make whatever they want, they dont just have it from start, they must have learned it from someone or practiced alot.
Well i am a bit new to the editor, so i could really need some advices on how to learn the editor, i know the basics like how to make a map and a little bit in the data and some triggers. But my question is how can i be as good as all the "galaxy editor masters", how can i learn and practice ? What should i practice on ? I really want to be good at this, so pls help me and give some advices, I would really appriciate the help and answers i get.
Do like I did, First make a melee map, this will teach you the basics of terraining, start locations, etc.
Then just make somthing that a little bit different Like I made/upgrading, a classic warcraft 2 map Mini Chop farms, With this I learned the basics of the data editor also more with terraining, lag reduction, VERY simple triggers
Then theres my 3rd project, called Evolution frenzy, my terraining is getting great my data editing skills are about average, and my Triggers well still suck a bit, But im getting used to them.
3rd project is a team project.
I am In no way a master, but I am learning pretty quickly
Learn from your friendly humble beloved mapper, the same competitors that kicked your ass map out of the pop sys.
Actually forget I sad the second part, just learning from others. How do "others" figured it out in the first place ?, they learned it through Blizzard's example.

Think of an idea you would like to see come to life. Try and make it come to life. You will learn about the editor as a bonus. Most important thing is to have fun while you're at it. There are a lot of different specializations you can branch into in mapping. To name a few:
Data
Terrain
Trigger
Scripting
UI layout
Best way to find out what you enjoy most is to try them all. For example, I suck with data and terrain, but throw me script and impossible is nothing. For others, script may not be an option, but they could be gods of creating stuff with data or UI.
I don't know, is it possible to become a master if you only want to learn editor and become a master. "Become a master" is something abstract, you can't touch and see it. But I think, you can become a master, if you passionately want to create something specific. You need a tangible aim - a map which exist in your imagination, and which should be made in the editor. In this case you know what you want, for example, you need to know how to make a unit to change his owner, or change his size, - and you just search for the information and learn, because it moves you a step closer to your aim.
Also, I think, the best thing to start with is video tutorials.
Thanks a lot, i think im gonna start with some turtorial for data, and i know a bit about terrain :D and after that maybe move upp to more advanced turtorials :D
How dare you terrain and use an Archon avatar? That's my job! :P
On a more serious note, the best way to become a master of the editor is just to work with it. A lot. There really isn't any way to just instantly become a master.

QUICK ALL terrainers use archon avater!!!!!
I agree working with the editor is the best, dont just go by tutorials Get in the editor and make a simple map, and get a little bit more advanced each time.

If you worked with wc3 triggerrs, you are quite comfortable in sc2 trigger editor.
and for data editor...you just have to learn it the hardway (I recomend tutorials)....its hard for sure, so you will require to have patience.

A lot of us around here have prior programming experience which can go a long ways, but its all learn-able through trial and error.

lol.
The trigger editor is easy, it is just basic mathematics ... if you have a good understand of arithimetic ie, 1+1=2 then you will be fine.
But FuzzYD hit it on the head, give everything a little try and find out what ones you are good at, find someone else who can fill in the rest.
