I'm very fond of the story behind the campaign of SCII. I'm very curious what the 2nd expansion will bring us. We all know it will be a protoss expansion, with a campaign with protoss in the lead and most likely an unfolding story about the xelnaga and the hybrids and how our hero's will stop Utter Darkness.
I am making this thread to share some idea's of what the 2nd exp. might bring us. For example i'm almost 100% sure one of the final mission will include all three races, teaming up in a final battle very similar to the final mission of WCIII Reign of Chaos. It will be a clash between those 3 races and the hybrids with some ultra xelnaga-demigod monster.
As for new units, I as a protoss player, think protoss will get some new ground units. Their air units are pretty stuffed. Air-wie they have everything to counter everything. I'm actually thinking of some units that make an oke counter versus early MM pressure. I mean zealots can be kited, stalkers are just ultra weak vs marauders, and sentries cost a pissload of gas. They might actually add a fast unit to do some counter attacks to balance the medivac boost things, and speedlings.
I have absolutely no idea what zerg or terran might get.
Please share your thoughts about the 2nd expansion of scII - Legacy of the void :).
It will have a lame story like the one of HotS and the brutal difficulty will be noob/retarded friendly like the one of HotS... I hope that this will not happen but i am sure it will happen, starcraft 2 is like CoD or BF, the singleplayer is a tutorial for newbies and a feature usefull only for hype, spots and the two first weeks of gameplay :(
@Crazio: Go Blizzard said there was a good chance they wouldn't add new multiplayer units, so expect new campaign units for the sake of having them. And considering how much people bashed them for not adding all SC1/BW units, it is possible they will do that for protoss somehow. So terran and zerg will only get new units if they have a good reason to include them in a mission.
And I kind of agree with Defilerrulez, I expect LotV's campaign to be as easy as HotS' unless Blizzard listened to HotS campaign feedback. I'm positive we will have a mission to fight Niadra and her brood, because that may be the only reason to fight Zerg now. Tal'Darim will surely appear too, but I don't know what the Terran opposing forces will be.
I have a feeling LotV's campaign will either be easier than HotS' campaign, or more brutal than WoL's, but probably not as hard as Brood War's.
Though, I have a feeling that if we get to fight Amon himself, it'll be a sort of "We must all unite and delay his forces for <amount of time> while <plot device> is ready to activate, so we can defeat him once and for all!", kinda like the last level of WC3:RoC. I don't see how else you could destroy a godlike/invincible being :P

I sure hope you are so wrong here Defiler :p. They should make the brutal campaign atleast as hard as WOL.
As to not adding any new units, I can kinda understand why. The new units in HoTS gave them a hell of a job concerning balancing. Almost like implementing the DK in WoW.
Anyway, concerning the campaign. I dont think zerg and terran will get all that much attention. Maybe as some opposing force.
Some predictions I have for the story (I know most will be wrong):
-Game opens with a Zerg mini campaign (2-3 missions) where Kerrigan takes the swarm into the void to fight Amon
-Kerrigan initially fails, the swarm is taken over by Amon, but she is able to return to Korhal Safely (Stukov returned with her)
-Raynor is now the General of the Dominion, taking orders from Valerian Mengsk (no more Terran civil war)
-The Terrans are recovering from the events of HotS
-Zeratul returns to the Spirit of Tassadar for guidance, who is instead shocked when Tassadar is returned from the dead as his presence will unite the factions.
-1/3 to 1/2 of the campaign focusing on Zeratul and Tassadar uniting the Protoss tribes
-The Tal'Darim will be even more Xel'Naga like (Dark skins and new units) and will be the primary enemies for the first half of the game
-An initial Zerg/Hybrid attack wave against Aiur lead by an agent of Amon (not Duran/Narud but someone new)
-The "Alliance" wins with ease and becomes overly confident, an effect that troubles Zeratul
-UED return to the Kuprulu sector
-Stukov tells the new UED General everything that has happened since the last time they came to the Koprulu sector.
-The UED end up aligning with the Dominion. (This is done to "beef up" the Terran army before the end)
-Another world or two where Protoss are united.
-Two worlds focus on defending against waves of the Hybrid/Zerg/Xel'Naga/Infested army
-final 3 missions involving the last stand of the Protoss Race (with Terrans helping out)
a) If this is the final SC game - Zeratul will lead the Protoss to their fate in a "300" like last stand. Raynor is killed and his final cry wakes up Kerrigan.
b) If SC3 will happen - The Protoss will lose many, but Kerrigan will return with plenty of time to spare, teams up with Raynor and Zeratul to fight Amon
-Final cutscene involves Kerrigan and Amon in a battle of epic proportions (pretty much DBZ styled combat)
a) If this is the final game we see a sad ending
b) If not we get a twist ending that no one will see coming
Also since Amon worked with the Xel'Naga to create the Protoss, Defile the Zerg and he apparently shares the name of Amon-Ra from ancient egypt we will probably see some sort of "Ancient Aliens" twist which IDK how I feel about.
I just know the campaign will have a predictable story, stuffs like i know the ending from the first cutscene, like happened on HotS
I am just curious to see how they will make usefull the tempest and what they will do with ms core and oracle.
PS: Why there aren't widow mines on HotS campaign?? And no new toss units ???
I hope that StarCraft will not end with sc2, is the E-Sport franchise of the company, and commercialy talking, WoL was a total success and HotS was another very good product
Personally I want a new melee unit from the robotics facility (Thrikodias' Avenger Unit is a great example)
and for Dark Templars to merge into Dark Archons, High templars to merge into archons and one of each templar merges into a Twilight archon (Archon that can attack and has dark abilities)
Hackneyed and cliche dialog.
The Terran Dominion still shows no evidence of being destroyed in previous games (their disastrous military defeats in BW and WoL were utterly ignored).
Protoss continue looking like incompetent weaklings. Any victories we have will just be attributed to Blizzard's "player-character always wins" syndrome.
Artifact & prophecy wankery magic instead of intelligent sci-fi.
total spoiler about the biggest surprise ever: Duran will appear because Narud was not Duran.
It's hilarious how one of the greatest manipulators and villains in all of SC was turned into a fool and went out like a chump, to the point that everybody now refuses to admit it was even the same character. :P
Be sure to check out the extension mod: Hots Custom Map support on NA and EU, Despite the name it greatly expands the roster of options for the default 3 races and is updated all the way to NCO.
I hope we get actual Mastery achievements instead of 80% of them literally being either "complete this mission in X minutes" or "destroy a bunch of shit in an already timed mission". Shit, there were only four that weren't effectively "Just rush this map" and actually demanded strategic insight rather than APM.
It makes sense that the Zerg are more suited towards 'rushing' achievements than the Terran, but still: in WoL only 39% of the 'hardmode only' achievements were time-related. And that's counting one "destroy a bunch of shit in an already timed mission" achievement that was still more fun than similar HotS achievements because you were actually supposed to defend in that map whereas all except one of the HotS timed maps require you to attack on a timer anyway. Excluding that achievement and pulling in the three WoL-campaign Feats of Strength (of which there were 0 in HotS), we're talking an 80% time-related hard-mode achievement rate in HotS compared to rate of 32% in WoL. I mean... wow.

...
What do you all think??? Spot on or waaayyy off?
The longer your post goes on, the wronger I think you become. The first bit has some pretty likely ideas, but I very much doubt Blizzard will pull Amon-ra into the equation or such. Also, I'm pretty sure LotV will not have a "final" end anyway where everybody dies and all situations are resolved. These kinds of games always leave room for some sort of sequel, even if there isn't a StarCraft III planned right now.
I think we'll see a lot of Zeratul and uniting the Protoss as well as the Zerg and possibly Kerrigan in some way, but I don't think it'll be as much of a 'last stand' as it will be an assault where Kerrigan plays some kind of pivotal role and the actions of the Protoss and Terran forces somehow revolve around what she does. Whether this is a "defend Kerrigan for X minutes" mission or a "Kerrigan did X, now you need to finish the job" mission is up in the air.
If Tassadar is to return in LotV (which he probably will), I hope he doesn't do so physically, would be better if he was Zeratul's spiritual guide/mentor/advisor, imo.
Though, a sad/'bad' ending wouldn't be such a bad idea, or even a bittersweet ending. Then again, looking at the two SC2 endings so far, I have a feeling it'll be a happy one.
Also, thumbs up for less timed missions/timed achievements, it feels as if almost every level is timed in a way (especially in HotS). Personally, I like to take my time and explore everything, but if a time limit exists...eh. Also, more difficult-to-acquire achievements would be nice, especially for the Mastery-type ones. HotS' felt a bit too easy to get and the feeling of achieving something challenging wasn't as present as in WoL. :/

I don't know. The endings of all installations of StarCraft so far have been bittersweet. SC had Tassadar's sacrifice, BW had Kerrigan emerging victorious from one of the greatest threats to her existence so far, WoL had Tychus' betrayal+death and HotS had Sarah's brief reunion with Jim before finally pretty much confirming that they were never going to be together again. I'd say the SC2 endings were less bittersweet than those from SC and BW, definitely, but there has always been a sense of loss and not just a "yup you won, party hard". I don't know how bittersweet LotV is going to be, but let me put it this way: I wouldn't be surprised if Kerrigan, Raynor and Zeratul all die (the second to protect the former and the latter to finish the job) while I would be surprised if all three of those made it out alive.

I hope we will get fewer timed missions.
Remember when Tft came out following war3, it completely changed the game.
I hope Lotv will be something along those lines.

How is possible that from the intro of BW we come to the ending of HotS??? From darkness to Twilight D:
Remnants of Mengsk's Dominion/xenophobic Mengsk supporters and/or the pirates/mercenaries again.
