As some of you may know, Mapcraft is sort of on a winter break and we're trying to change the show a bit, seeing as it's too hard to get guests now (we've gone through our list. If you have suggestions, feel free to post/PM). For those of you who don't know, well you probably have no idea what mapcraft is in the first place or don't care about it. For those that don't know, it's a podcast where we invite and interrogateinsult interview leaders of big mapping projects and discuss what not to put in your coffee (And with discuss I mean Eiviyn does all the talking). You can check out the videos on www.livestream.com/sc2streamster, there's a thing below the video where you can pick what to watch.
Anyway, we need suggestions. Seeing as our main problem is not having guests, we need things to do to fill up the time. Suggestions from the PM thread between Moz, Eiv, Zelda and me:
We do more "Of the week" stuff, but not necessarily things like what Eiviyn does now - Stuff like "melee map of the week", "Awesome data thingy of the week", "Terrain showcase of the week", "Art of the week", etc.
We pick a map each week. Some time during the week, the three of us get together and play it a few times and write down notes on it, then on mapcraft we either play it again (or we record our playthrough during the week and cut together a short video and play that instead) and then comment and sort of review it. We could use some rating system as well, like giving points for "Terrain", "Polish" and something else. Moz would give the terrain rating, Eiviyn the polish rating as I think he's the most critical of us, and I would do the "something else" rating (Custom Game Elements? (Triggers, Data, UI) Design?)
And that is unfortunately all we have (Well, there were other suggestions in there, but those aren't about content but how we handle the streaming and so on), which is why this is being posted.
What would YOU want to see us do? (i.e. what do you want Eiviyn to rant about on a weekly basis)
What do you think would be interesting/fun to watch?
We just need suggestions. Once we're confident we have enough content to fill up over an hour of casting each week without having a guest, we will probably start streaming again!
Also, comments on the two suggestions I already posted above would be apreciated as well :)
Playing maps probly wont be good idea. Its hard to make it fun to watch even if the map would be fun.
Weekly news, terrain showcase, map showcase would be fine for me. If you want showcase maps of bnet I would suggest playing them before mapcraft and the gathering small presentation/screenshots and tell how was it...
Still probly needs something more. Perhaps eiviyn should do those random things he does and showcase them lol (baneling thor, baneling riders xD), fun to watch but dont really take that much time to show :/.
since the custom map scene is what it is, its pretty hard to make a show around it. Perhaps you could even try like a map development cast (brainstom ideas for projects and stuff :E...probly too random).
So I didnt have any real ideas, but well keep it up guys!
What about a sorta of TotalBiscuit WTF but focused on custom maps instead of games?
The main purpose of these WTF is to give your first impression, not a detailed review. You may play the map a bit before the show but just to see if it has a good content or if it's garbage.
The game should last for max 20 minutes, if the game is short you can play it multiple times with different options. During the game time you should give continual impressions of the game and make brief gameplay analysis.
At the end each players gives his feedback/rating of the map played. You can invite other guests to play this game but they must partecipate to the end review. They can be any member of the community or maybe the special guest of the day.
If Guest - Ask questions as always but have more general question and less completely off topic questions. Then play the map and show it off, or recording is good, doesn't matter. Then ask the guest for a summary of how the map works and a quick overview on how to play, the objective, and some of the features that are available. Then rate it from like 1-10 or something. If that's not enough, just rant lol, everybody enjoys that.
If no Guest - Find a simple map randomly that looks interesting. Kind of like featuring a map similar to the announcements. Play it. Then explain each of your views over it. How could it be improved? What's already good about it? What makes it unique? If it's terrible, what do you suggest? If it's great, do you think there should be a sequal? Rate it. Then if you still don't have enough time...rant? lol
If you need more time - Find an interesting map that isn't finished yet. Check it out. What's cool about it? Do you think it'll turn out decent? Think it's a good idea? Is it terrible or amazing? What do you suggest they include? If there isn't enough info, just leave and go on to the next one. Rate each one. To find one just try the maps tab on mapster or the forums...
I would go against playing the game live- but if you record a game, and then cut it down to a few short clips to highlight certain things, that would be fine.
Oh, and here's a preview of Tomorrow's News:
You know what...the editor itself needs a co-op mode where multiple people can terrain at the same time on the same map similar to multiplayer gaming on sc2 except it'd be for the editor. Think about the possibilities...
Highlight newly announced projects each week. Highlight new releases each week (good or bad.) Discuss hot forum topics. Invite people from the chat to join in on the discussion (kind of like people calling in to radio stations.)
There is hardly ever any talk about innovations in the community, like new libraries or interesting terraining or triggering techniques. This might spice things up a bit.

Just mention my name and you'll get +200% viewers.
@Mephs: Go
like 20 viewers then? You got some reputation bro :D
@zenx1: Go
I'm not sure if I should be insulted or amused at that post, but dear god was that an awesome... anti-diss(?) in Mephs' direction =')

You guys are great.
Zenx now owns mephs. :P

Mo Amewicans!
There's only like 2 people who make custom maps anymore anyway. By that ratio I'm a god amongst losers.
@Mephs: Go
So you're the god of losers? Great job! :)
Least I'm a god, man. Least I'm a god.
Probably Mapcraft's biggest problem.
Lol had a funny idea...
if all else fails, make a map yourselves lol.

If all else fails, talk about Skyrim :)
SVN or internal source control would be neat.
If custom maps weren't hopeless anyway.
a horror style map that you solve puzzle and escape traps..
wtf is this
