Fake names do not work for everyone. If you have an authenticator on your account (WoW players and accomplished map developers will) then it would be a very bad idea to use a fake name. If the battery on your authenticator runs out, it breaks, or it gets lost then you need to provide Blizzard with copies of valid ID to remove the non-functioning authenticator. If you used a fake name, you would not be able to do this. So, really, if you already entered a fake name and attached an authenticator, then your account will become unusable as soon as that battery runs out. Just my 2 cents.
Microsoft Windows Live Messenger Beta. Is trying the same crap as blizzard the messenger beta you can not put in a nickname it uses your first and last name from your hot mail email account settings.
Microsoft are you mad no one wants to give out there real name over messenger.
hopefully they change that. Lets just all get a neon sign saying come kill me here is my first and last name.
Well, so why are you called "MilleniumArmy" and not John Smith (or however your name is)? Because you prefer it like that, amirite? And they take that from you.
I would like to have see more responsibility in these forums (and anywhere else), but I don't want to give up my "internet identity", or anonymity.
I'm called "MillenniumArmy" because that's the name I want people to recognize me by, not just some random annonymous player. I can understand not wanting to use your real life name but like I said, Blizzard is NOT giving us unique names (I'm talking about battle.net, not the battle.net forums) which is what's pissing me off. I want to have my screenname be recognized and remembered by friends and people I game with and not have like a million other people out there have the same sn as me.

It's not about killing anyone. It's about the fact that games are still considered geeky at best and dorky at worst. If a future employer googles for your name and all they find is 500 posts about how warlocks are OP and priests are useless because of xyz, there goes your job.

"That's not me."
Unless you make it known that's specifically you making those posts, or you have a truly unique name, you can't really prove who's actually saying what on the forums without additional connecting information (an IP address or a state or something). Employers doing random google searches probably aren't going to be able to connect those forum posts to you, unless you also make evidence to support it outside the WoW forums.
Would you want to work for someone who thought you were the only John Smith in the world who posted on Bnet forums?
You think it matters to some mid-level idiot supervisor? He sees a name that looks like yours it doesn't matter if it's really you or not. And no, most of us don't want to work for people like that but welcome to the real world, where you have to.
hahahaha Worried about work because of playing Video games, thats great.
Sue their asses if you are in the states, thats technically discrimination. EOE is your friend!
For my general 2 cents on this issue, i welcome the change. People that are worried about they names confuse me. You can find alot more about people with google right now than many of you would prolly be comfortable with. i mean come on guys. They want to show your name, not your social security number or credit card number. There isnt anything really reasonable to be afraid of. Go grab a phone book, You got thousands of people's first and last names addresses and phone numbers in your hand. DOWN WITH THE PHONE BOOKS THEY ARE EVIL. Sure phone books dont have you saying warlocks are OP or dont really tell you much about a person, but that brings you back to google. I could take any name in the phone book, knowing the state, and name a person is from i could find them saying Warlocks are OP that way.
Bifuu, my concern is not for people to know my name, but is different.
see, now we have usernames, which are unique, like you can't pick Dustin since its taken.
Well guess what, your baby doctor won't stop you from naming your baby a name that is already taken.
Point is, there could be millions of trolls out there with the same name as yours, and when you want to make a serious post
people can start flaming you for no good reason because they despise you.
Honestly I think people are a little confused. The real threat with Real Names on Forums is not so much a privacy concern as it is a matter of CONTROL coming from Blizzard.
Without an option to allow your Real Name to be revealed, Blizzard ( err I should say Activision-Blizzard or Kotick's Cash Cow) is basically forcing the users hand. Besides, Real Name integration only benefits Acti-Blizz, and is a step further into making Facebook integration mandate ( even though they say that it will be optional).
And Bifu I honestly don't think you'd be pleased with people spreading your information all over the internet.

There is an option of having your main character's name in parenthesis next to your real name as I understand it.

I honestly dont mind it, i like people to know who i am and i have nothing to hide.
Oh crap... Blizzard and Activision merged? I don't understand how blizz is gonna benefit from this considering questionable moves that Activision made in the last few months...

Haha what kind of person are you that you think of people know your real name someone is going to try to kill you.
Of all the reasons to not like this change, that has to be the dumbest.
hehe, good that I dont have hotmail.D

Not going to make a difference if you have the option of not showing it. makes your account name anonymous.
Your doctor names your children? O.o

They've been merged for a while...
What I mean is this.
