I found SC2mapster when these videos were shown: http://www.sc2mapster.com/announcements/?page=150
This is pretty fun to read through all the old news and check out some of the maps people made even before SC2 was released. Would anyone interested going through these pages of announcements and trying out these maps?

no problem with the open games list of 3.0 but the maps are most likely not playable anymore due to sc2 patches.
About right here was when I discovered mapster, but I didn't make an account till much later. I was looking up stuff about the beta (I didn't get in T.T ) and the editor to learn info.
Cant rember the first pager but i do remember what got me hook on the editor on Aug 7, 2012 there was a Weekly Terraining Exercise #92: Fulla's Lava Arena.
I saw Telthalion's screenshots and my eyes just open to the possibilities of what can be done. There I wanted to learn this elusive editor.
I've joined quite late and i'm very sad about it. Modding must have been way more fun when scene was alive and there was a lot stuff to discover.
By browsing some of the projects from 2010 make me realize, that i'm way more impressed by what people were able to make at that time, than what i'm seeing those days from "new generation".
Though.. the current projects on frontpage from 2015 are also impressively good. Yet, on open games in arcade you always see the same shit :|

no no no
To avoid paradoxes, I want to note, that I never discovered SC2Mapster, and can't even answer your question there.

Still alive and kicking, just busy.
My guide to the trigger editor (still a work in progress)
Don't recall of the top of my head, but probably optimism about the map marketplace and enthusiasm about the upcoming release of WoL.
@houndofbaskerville: Go
Its okay, i only have a few points hah.
Most likely the maps are broken, we must check them :)
I'm too lazy to check.

I remember a very exciting poll asking people about their favorite Blizzard mod so far!
