I was making a map, and I'm stumped at the zergling. Right now it has one ability, and that is frenzy.
I need ideas for spells (Something awesome). Difficulty is not a problem, so any crazy idea will go.
Some sort of Leap should be fitting, morphing into Banelings to blow up could also work as an ability unless you use that unit already.
Also, if you don't want to go with Leap, you could allow them to walk upp walls (the Collossus Mover looks quite ok on them) as a passive ability.
Edit: Thought of some more, not all of them may fit, depending on what kind of map you're making.
- Cannibalize, allowing the Zergling to consume corpses in order to gain life.
- Infected Bite, a bite that spreads an infection to the enemy target, dealing damage over time (could have a chance to proc as a passive ability, or be something you actively use. Could also do stuff like slow the target, make them spawn a broodling if they die with the disease on, make them share line of sight with the zergling for as long as it lasts or any other kind of debuff.
- Burrow, this is just an idea, but if you're not using burrow in the regular sense, you could make sort of a Blink ability where the Zergling burrows, and 3 seconds later unburrow at the location you blinked to. Quite similar to Leap, but it's another way to do it I suppose. If you use this, you could make leap into a more of an offensive move, where you have to target an enemy, and the leap attack stuns them, deal extra damage or something.
I think you should make a "baneling rolling bomb" ability. Firstly, it channels - a baneling is morphing in front of a zergling. Then, this baneling is rolling in a line towards where it was targeted. When it collides with a target, it explodes, dealing splash damage.
It could be wise to start from Raynor's Snipe ability. Making an analog based on Snipe would be easier.
Also, make the baneling scale up until it explodes. That would be nice looking!
I would definitely enter the prewiever and study the animations the zergling has to offer. For example, Zerglings have some animations with wings and attack and land animations, which would fit for a jump-like spell. Then there are burrow and unburrow ones, which you could use for burrow spells (duh!)
What else?
We have the dance animation. Zergling does some crazy break dance on his back. Great!
What could we do with it? First thing which came to my mind:
-While spinning, zergling shoots multiple spines (similar to hydralisk attacks) on surrounding enemies (yeah maybe spines are not that zergling-type, but in my imagination it fits very well with the zergling spinning on his back). When the spin ends, zergling makes some kind of pose, which I would use for even more spines (like while spinning he throws 1 at a time in quick intervals, the pose throws 1 on everyone around)
Just the first idea, which spontaneously crossed my mind.
It's a great idea, but it doesn't fit the zergling since the baneling would come out of nowhere. However, i'm going to use that for the baneling (rolls itself into a ball with target point, and gathers speed over time. Explodes if it hits a doodad or unit.) Oh yeah and the scaling thing.
I've made flying zerglings before, pretty much loop the jump /w wings animation. Problem with zerglings is that they're melee, and would require a ranged attack during the flight.
The second idea sure is imaginative, lol. Props to you for finding such a clever use for the dance animation. I'll take a look and see what i can come up with.

Ideas will of course be credited in my map. :)

Using infected bite. :)
Here's hello from DeForce!

Thanks for the great ideas guys! :D
16 day bump! I say a zergling grabs onto the top of an marine(etc.) head, distracts it, then rips its head off with its claws.
