Also the language barrier unless blizzard implemented an auto
translator.
I don't understand this problem, in Europe I meet people from different countries each game. Unless we're talking about people with 0 knowledge of english, there shouldn't be any problem at all, imo.
Also, those that speak only their language will probably gather between them and leave us alone ;).
Couldn't agree more. That's what I fear will happen. Very few Russians speak english and I suppose all their maps are made in cyrylica (or however its spelled) so yeah.... I'm not happy about what they are planning
Im mostly into melee so that's where rus will mostly go - ladder - so bigger competition on higher level. But everyone who plays SC2 seriously from rus is already on SC2 EU. So what's so bad about it? I would say all the posts about how bad it is are reasonless and prejudiced. Well I can speak Rus despite not being one, so far me and my team played vs rus, I dont see any problem. They are normal like everyone else... and blaming them on their language is like saying why some speak french or ger or Spanish. So many times in War3 I was seeing Deutsch ja jaja but lucikly I know that langauge too lol.
In mapmaking you would see the same either they wont speak at all or only talk b-n friends, I find nothing scary about it :)
I only wanted /stats, /o igw, /ignore, /w as we can't do anything in-game without them... and Show Losses
Also ALL need bnet to be made so you can vote for new host if current AFK so that you dont wait 5-10 mins to start which is totally lame and of course - a way to be able to cancel if game counter starts so that you dont have to relog by ;logging out; but they did nothing for those ... again
I have no problems in sharing the same space with people from different languages. This is one step for a globalized world, or better saying, a globalized Battle.net.
I don't care if there's maps I can't understand. I don't care if there's people I can't understand. I find beautiful to see everyone playing together as a single nation.
Older games didn't have regional servers. I know Age of Empires and Red Alert didn't. Half the fun was trying to figure out what your teammates were saying.
Once you successfully coordinated an attack despite the language barrier, you feel a special bond formed with your alliance.
If they are going top do THIS why cant they do GLOBAL PUBLISHING???
For GODS SAKE i have been waiting to actually play some of the games from the US but my Internet lags just LOGGING IN!
I am in SEA.

Absolute hero comment. You're a man of the future, Mr. Rodrigo!
Anyway - while it might be true that not a lot of Russians speak English (not sure about this, never played with Russians before?), that doesn't change the fact that what Zarakk is describing has already happened with a ton of other maps. Benutzdefiniert is a word I didn't know until I started custom mapping, and there's a lot of French and even Spanish stuff around too.
A "fix" to those language problems would be better "multilanguage" options. Right now, I have no idea how to make multiple languages for your map, when it should be something easy for everyone, so it's more user-friendly. That way, you can, at least, create 2 versions, one for your language and another for English as the default for the rest of the players.
Btw, if someone knows how to, a small explanation would be nice. It doesn't worry me right now, but I would like to eventually add a Spanish version for my map :S.

While I value the cosmopolitan nature of your post, I myself have a huge problem with different languages in onlinegames, even if it is my mothertongue. Everytime I read "Völlig ohne Beschreibung" I just refuse to even try the map, even more so if the map is called "Träger Defense" (Träger = Carrier... mixing languages? Oh come on!) or whatever.
Why don't you care if you don't understand people? Without communication no unity. English is established as the lingua franca of the internet, and I'd like to see that fact backed up by Blizzard.
This may seem ignorant to some. I am aware of the fact that not everybody had the opportunity to properly learn english. But encouraging the usage of everyones mothertongue divides the gaming community, not unite it.

while a friend of mine (russian) is a real time traveler (plays with an unbelievable delay, and at photon cycles to boot ...) i (for the life of me) cannot understand resistance to this..???? Of course it is challenging, of course one should not be happy until a real crossrealm is implemented.. but .. butt... ???
You guys want to join rod and vexal on the "enterprise" right? (star trek reference)... so get to it: wilkomen, bienvenue tchao et tutti quanti.. open up guys.. it's a great wide world out there.. i mean think of the kids.. think of the babes ...and please show some guts and use online dictionaries.. to insult them in their native languages if you must but.. but never go reactionary .. ever ;^p
:/ I don't want the EU custom map list to be filled with Супер обороны Древних интересного материала..
I mean, it's a nice idea; more players = more games for everyone.. But yeah, I can't read russian

This is a second step back to the start line, about 3 more to go... I would note that this is an improvement, but made for the wrong reason Imo...

Agreed you can always communicate with a series of pings and grunts. Also it certainly would allow the eu to have some decent maps for once.
