I realized that I had in all the years of being here, never made a map. So I set out on the task to complete a simple survive for 20 min map. I will be adding on to it as time progresses, but it is operational. Feel free to play and give feedback even though it is a very small game.
Tell me if you beat it as well. I made it challenging but on the edge of impossible.
So thing brings up something else I wanted to mention. If you are curious in making maps, just start small and finish the small map. I plan on adding on more to this map, and I will most likely scrap the terrain, but I just focused on getting it operational on the base level rather than looking pretty and having all these epic cool things.
I will admit, my main focus has usually been making something look pretty instead of getting it operational when I made maps. I also took on more than I could chew 99.9% of the time lol
I am in the same boat as you, always played around with the editor, but never actually finished anything.
I am working on my first project called zX Alpha which is ment to recreate the type of game Blizzard had when they first made the alpha version of the game.
With every unit flying, minerals on asteroids, ect ect
Going to make a 1v1 with JUST protoss first, then expand and make the other races, then make 2v2, 4v4 and a 4 v Ai
It will be an extremely small game, but it requires making many custom units, building the level, and learning alll the in's and outs of really working on a project from start to completion

Here's a tip;
Don't.
Your first map WILL be bad.
This isn't some slander against you. It's just how it goes.
Start small. Start easy, and most importantly; start something you will finish.
2 and a half years ago, I created my first map, The Last Alliance. I was told by pretty much everyone who played it that it was really fun. I can promise you this: PEOPLE LIE. No matter WHAT people say, your first map will be bad.
Still use it as a learning experience. Instead of creating a full scale map, create a bunch of different maps that dive into different areas of the editor. Go into Triggering, Data, and all other exercises posted here to further your knowledge.
