I dont know about the rest of you map makers but i have stopped all developement on my map, its not worth it to me anymore. Why you ask? Well everyone that has played my map/maps has said "You're a friggin genius!" "Why the hell isnt this at the top of the list!?" or "Man i wish i could play this more often but nobody ever joins!". I spent a good 7-9 hours a day on my latest map Planetary Boss Arena VS and it got nothing but great review from anyone who played it.
One day it was moving up the list in pop @18-21 games an hour, now... its at 1 game an hour and i had so many plans to add new content such as switchable classes but why the hell bother? Its really a shot to the motivation when you spend hours upon hours on something and everyone loves it.. except that list.
I am going to include a video of it to show what im talking about, its unique and LOTS of fun (We managed to get a full game and have a 3v3 match and it was everything we hoped for and more.) But now its over :(
(Also just wanted to state i dont think im a genius at all, i am just saying how can i get nothing but positive feed back and never have people to play my map except a handful of ppl who have played it)
I know what you mean, and trust me, your SOOO not alone, Im spending close to 8 hours a day working on my teams map. I mean loads and loads of crap is being put into this... and as of right now... once its FINALY DONE, we wont be able to host and play... Blizzard really needs to work on getting the old game system back.
The only reason there is motivation to finish my map...is we have big plans for promotion (we hope) for example we hope to give away a copy of half life 2 VIA a contest with the map... its sad that it comes down to such things just to get your map noticed.

Have you gotten that feeling that you see your map talked about on youtube/other forums and see all the praise and you feel GREAT. Then you log in to b.net and are shot back down to reality lol.
"luckly" if thats how it should even be worded, not yet. We havnt released the map at all, in any way. But doesn't mean I dont know what you mean by that feeling. For anyone.. spending hours and hours on a map, and never get to play it with anyone... its just not right at all. I dont understand how they didnt think of this problem, I mean I can understand the popularity system for creating a game... but for joining a game....what were they thinking?
and if it means anything, me and my friend play your map actually =D
that does mean alot, i dont even care if its not at th top.. i was STOKED when i saw 20 games an hour, i just fixed the the 3rd person camera 100% i think you and your friend will enjoy it :) added new depth and your chr never leaves the center of the screen
That's really sad when it got featured a lot and people still don't play it. ( still think a decent percentage of sc2 player still dont even know sc2mapster existed, we still need to promote it more). Another reasons for you might be computer specs. For a 3rd person view with that plenty of effect, player might get serious lag (sure they can turn down the setting but most of them dont since they cant understand why their meta game is still sweet and they have to change it for 1 custom game )
Edit: I myself, cease any updates to my projects and started have fun exploring all the new concepts I can find for now. Might get back to serious business until they fixed their sh*%
Popularity sucks, we all know that. But the maps are all still fun for custom games with friends, and blizzard will probbly fix popularity soon due to the massive amount of complaints on thier website.

Feel free to Send me a PM if you have any questions/concerns!
In regards to performance, one of my friends plays on a pretty low end mac and runs the game fine, mostly bc of one of my more recent updates i reduced the draw distance alot(got rid of skybox :(. I have done the same thing prog. I actually started playing the campaign and actually game haha. Also doing the whole thing with just thinking of new ideas for now, like i have a whole new combat system written down for my maps i think ppl will love but its going to be alot of work and im not bothering until i see some progress lol. Yeah it does suck about it getting featured alot, all of my maps have been featured on front page of mapster and other sites, including blogs... yet all i see is "Man this looks awesome.... where is it?.
PS. A big part of the problem is the sc2 community, its like the WoW forums but in game. You go into a nexus game and talk about ur map alittle and what do ppl do? nothing, they just play the same map they just played again instead of trying something that could be sh*t loads more fun.
I feel bad for them decided to go for a casual approach. (to mainly pull WoW player over) We have to wait for another year or so for something we should have had at release. If they didnt fix it soon enough, I fear the casual crowd would be the one pulling the game's success/life down soon
Well I still didnt bought the game... Coz its not worth the money for me now, and fun.
I just hope they wont start charging maps and shits, so people will have to pay for maps lol... that will really kill the modding side of the game.
And Sc2 itself wont live as long as Sc1 did for sure. Standards and expectations are a bit higher today... Seems like they dont realize that.
It might be fun playing 2v2 with friends, if that is possible. Or even 3v3.
But that isnt wort 60 bucks lol...
HAHA, SO WILL THIS BE SAME AS THAT AVP GAME ? Happy me I didnt bought it. But I laugh at people who are spamming steam AvP forums, haha. SEGA is shit. Vanguisher looks good, but as SEGA is publisher I wont be getting it .) .
huh? they did put it up to top standards... it is worth 60... and you can 4v4 in ranks if you like.... 7v7 custom... its well worth the money, even with the BS map system
Also, in the future, the MAP USER can charge for maps if they like...which IS a good thing for them, if they truly make a unique map (aka new textures, graphics...ect) then its wroth a few bucks if the MAKER so wants.

True... I feel totaly the same way....
My Zone Control Map
this map was took most of my gr 9 summer away working on this -.- (havent updated anything for 3 days now)
Just hope they fix it before high school starts again, since than my mother would be more stricted on how much time i spend on my laptop

lol, with the crack floating around, you can get the full experience of the campaign. Even without the crack, u can still use the editor and launch every single mission, even modify the map to run any cinematic. Some more tutorial on melee map then you can vs AI all the way. Hell, even creating custom game doesnt require you to publish. The only thing you got for 60$ is the casual/crappy Bnet 2.0 + multiplayer
Sorry to tell you, man, but the type of map you've created generally isn't very popular. It was true back in WC3 too (see: impossible bosses), so even if Blizzard didn't have such a frankly terrible system in place it's unlikely your map would get the type of popularity you want it to have. If it's any condolence to you, popular maps tend to suck design-wise, and are mostly repetitive iterations of a few tired genres.
Another thing that instantly turns people off to, well, anything is interface lag (or latency, whatever). You use the WASD keys, which would be fine except that they turn out very laggy in battlenet. People hate to be able to see lag that easily. In an RTS-like map, you can easily get away with lots of ping but when you start to control one unit it just doesn't work out.
Still though, your game is much better than Nexus wars. It's just a sad fact that the popularity system is even harsher to non-mainstream maps than the custom games list was.

Unfortunately, it's extremely unlikely that anyone will ever bother buying premium maps because there are too many good, fun free maps. The entire feature seems kind of pointless, and mostly just angers people.

Uhh, guy, piracy doesn't devalue a singleplayer game. It's just piracy. If I bought Half Life 2 for $10, I'm paying for the story regardless of whether or not I could just pirate it.
I dont think you understand the point of the premium maps, maps on this, wont just be maps, but "New Games" with nothing the same other than running on the galaxy engine. That would be the maps (games) people would be. If those kind of maps ever happen, whos to say.

What does illegal cracking have to do with the legal value of the game? The game itself was a blast, and still is. its like saying my laptop isnt worth 2k cause I could have just stole it from the store
What I mean is the free editor can basically let you have this blast for free. The bnet is just not worth it. Their first mistake is to delay the release to develop 2.0, and second: release it anyway even when bnet is not completely complete (aka: blizzard quality)
Cracking has nothing to do with value of the game yes... I WILL BUY THE GAME IF GAME IS WORTH MY MONEY.
I can crack a game, but cracked games are not usually played very long...
For my personal taste; Editor(Custom Maps) and Multiplayer are bestfeatures that Wc3 had. Sc2 has only Multiplayer, I'm not satisfied...
Custom maps can be fun as hell. HEY FIGURE IT OUT; CUSTOM MAPS MEANS MORE MONEY FOR BLIZZARD.
Purchasable maps means less money for blizzard, coz I wont buy maps. And I wont play games, and most of people wont.
Well this is my thinking. Anyway... I hope they will fix maps. But seeing SEGA and Rebellion, and lots of other developers that are releasing unfinished games...
I say keep working on it since I have a feeling Blizzard will listen to the overwhelming complaints against the popularity system. Keep in mind the game was just realeased so hopefully things get changed.
Well they will probbly fix all. Since they have money. But it will cost them a lot more. Coz they will lose lots of customers. Some will pass on other games.

Have you seen the videos? That is what is pissing me off the most, we've had a full 3v3 capture the flag game and the lag was barely 0.5 seconds IF THAT. I am not trying to flip out on you but just because certain wasd games lag does not mean they all do and its like nobody pays attention to the videos, it clearly shows everyone moving around fine and reacting perfectly without lag interference. The Planetary Boss series PvE maps may not be popular for the reasons u listed and i get that, but why not the arena map? No excuse imo and myself and 20-30+ other people are sick of it because we all love this map but yet my threads on the official forums get 3 views while Random RPG Test(Are you shitting me?) gets SHITLOADS more and is even towards the top of the pop list... no excuse.
