I'm going on the creation of a blog about the Starcraft 2 Editor Development in French. This blog will talk about all related things about Galaxy Editor. News, Guides, Tutorials, ...
So yes I know, this post is only for frenchies. I also know a part of the massive mapping community of Starcraft 2 speaks french.
The Blog has currently 5 posts :
Guide: Compétences en Vrac! (1)
Guide: Les fils de discussion dans Starcraft 2
Guide: Bases de programmation
Le saviez-vous?: Chaîne de caractères et Fichier - Image, même combat !
So yes I know, this post is only for frenchies. I also know a part of the massive mapping community of Starcraft 2 speaks french.
While I mean no offense, the only mapper I know on this site that is French is Scbroodsc2. If he's in any way representative, that's less than 0.5% of the active community.
OT: Gl with your blog! I agree with moz that I think the community is a bit smaller than "massive" but regardless, reaching out to every corner of people interested in mapping is a good thing.

Could you tone it down a little, Bask? I don't think you mean harm, but you've yet to refer to the French without 'insulting' them. There's peoples and cultures on this planet I dislike, but I don't go around calling them mindless toothblowers at every turn either. You can raise the point of "why bother doing it in French, ultimately you're handicapping yourself?" just as well without butchering their language and calling them "world blowing stinking cheese frog and snail eating".
thank you oo8 (not licenced to kill that's for sure, not even licensed to ill ;^p )
i am french and it is "typing" not talking...
j'ai eu 3 grand mères directrices d'école primaires... donc je hais l'orthographe... sinon j'adores l'humour et les gens ne savent pas prendre le temps de rire ni de lire correctement...

@Moz: sorry, there has been a misunderstanding
i meant english people need to discover other cultures.. because in opposition, we french (germans japanese .. all others) HAVE TO Learn english..

cause i am french (didn't that filter through?)
all the things i typed i stand by:
G Brasens is the best poet on earth (he sings too, alas only in french), his legacy is why french people can save the world (probably wont though :) )
the french government (for political/economical reasons) did blow some parts of dear earth.. i am ashamed of it and i wish more french SAID SO TOO

Moz ps: do tell me if i am off somehow.. i meant only to be "a french representative in this thread"
oooh and thank you for mapster
and long live the dutch (the other country that sired infamous pirates :) we invented "parlé" and you guys invented the need for the term "corsair" i believe, selling your services to "established" countries ;) ... plus you guys are the only one's to have pushed back the sea... wow... :) )
although I'm sure the reasons for doing a french site are perfectly innocent, i really do think cultures should learn to change a little. french people a lot of the time like to speak french because they are stubborn and dont want to speak english etc because they are in a strop about it and think they are 'losing part of their culture', the fact of the matter is, languages like french are largely obsolete, and don't benefit the community as much as that site would in say english etc.
i do understand that is offensive, but don't take this as an english person, wishing you would speak english, i personally couldnt care less. I would just rather everyone spoke the same language, as it means I could communicate with more people, utilise more information from different cultures and places and many many other things. if this 'world' language turned out to be dutch for example, then i'd learn dutch like everyone else and english to me wouldnt exist any more as i would have no use for it.
i would however vote for english or spanish as the world language as music is a huge part of my life and i think music translates much better into those languages ;-)
oh and im well aware this world language wont happen so good luck with your site anyway! but do try to continue sharing your knowledge in english as well (as i've seen you do before) as it will ultimately benefit more people =)

You either heard some french politics or just using plain stereotypes of France. True that some people think like this, but in any country you'll find the same conservative talk, and such image can't fit the whole population of a single country.
While I using english is definitivly not digging France's culture and that France have problems in its education program about speaking another language, I find the whole "languages are french are obsolete" both insulting and thoughtless.
Language refrains thoughts. Speaking a language is actually a great deal to the way you're thinking. For exemple, russians people have very good recognitions of color, whereas english-speaking people have not. Why ? Because russians people have a much larger vocabulary about colors.
Why do you think people still study extinct languages like latin and ancient greek ?
I do not consider myself as a hard french defenders (I'm polish/french/venezuelian) but I do speak 3 languages and my parents speaks 5 :
my point is that all languages commands different way of thinking, and that if everyone spoke the same language, that would actually make us very likely to think alike. To me, that would be terrible to the human collective sight. (see 1984 novel, where governement plans to unify the thought of the masses by inventing an universal and simple language)
I often surprise myself thinking in spanish, or english, or french, and having to speak differents languages is, to me, a way to have a clearer point of view and multiple way of thinking.
i would however vote for english or spanish as the world language as music is a huge part of my life and i think music translates much better into those languages ;-)

See, spanish and english musics can be both great because they have both their specific traits ! French songs, imo, are really hard to compose for the french language is a bit complicated and does not flow like english or spanish. Translate any good songs might it be by a rapper or the Beatles in french, it just sounds plain ridiculous. But if people try hard enough (and not try to imitate american songs with french lyrics that give shitty songs these days) it can be really beautiful in its own way.
Btw imo I think france language is better for poetry than songs.
you can think and say what you want, as that is the beauty of opinion, but you have both missed my point and taken offence at what i was merely stating as a perfect example (which we are all well aware will never happen, so pointless arguing for or against). the fact is, if you produce a blog in french, you are creating something which can be utilised by far far fewer people than if it were produced in another language. this language could be russian for all i care, my point is not to destroy french, or any language. but you cannot possibly argue the fact it benefits more people by being written in french.
and i did not say french was obsolete, i said it was 'largely obsolete', which is a huge difference. and i don't believe I mentioned plato lol i also did not say anything about opening my mind, i was merely making an argument for a perfect world. as it happens I have studied french for over 6 years, so I would advise you to take what I say with a pinch of salt =)

Well, that ended being a little bit of a textblock. I hope I changed your mind :)
