Heck it's expensive even for a non-Californian USA resident to travel there...
I once drove to Cali... took over 24 hours... probably won't be doing that again. They stop you at the border too to search your car for fruit! It's the only state I've ever been stopped at the border. It's cuz they're all paranoid about people bringing diseases that will infect their crop. Idk why people would even farm in a desert with no water.

Off topic, but a Californian, let me give the short version: Water is the ONLY limit to growing stuff here. Our weather is basically perfect, the soil is incredibly rich, some of the richest on earth, and we have a ton of land to grow on. While a large limiting factor, water is the only limiting factor. Give California water, and we feed.... well, a good chunk of the world.
As for the topic at hand. Yes, that would be nice, but the general issue with this kind of thing is who do you choose? Can't just say "Everyone who has published a map gets in free". They are limited by how much space is in the Anaheim Convention center and there are a lot of more deserving people who get tickets for free (like Blizzard staff families).
Isn't that what Rock the Cabinet is for? I think last time they let People play the maps at Blizzcon
Well no. I think it was for the very first mapping contest and if i remember correctly the winner was Rocket Arena.
Also i remember that some people was angry about this because Rocket Arena was a map of team liquip and they think they let them win just because team liquid is a important team for blizzard.
People who do enough to catch Blizzard's eye will likely receive this kind of stuff either way. I'll bet my ass the folks who hang out with Traysent will have some kind of friends & family access.
Blizzard catches people who create something accessible that becomes high profile. There's some mappers included in that, like Dogmai and the boys from SCU. Of course you're not guaranteed to receive constant help and attention if you don't keep putting the work in (i.e. Carbot).
You make a map that's revolutionary and catches on, I will promise you that you'll catch Blizzards eye.
While the modding scene isn't bad per se, though, it feels a bit pointless to me to vie for the attention of the big shot in the room now that it is so easy to start creating games from scratch. Go indie or go home!
I like this idea, but it would have to be what/who Blizzard considered the "Best of the best" which may or may not result in some people feeling upset that they were not picked.
That said, even if I was not one of those picked, I would still like to see something like this just so arcade developers finally get some sort of top tier acknowledgement for their work.

Silly americans wanted to build an oil pipe line across the the country. But not a water pipe line to California. It just makes no sense.
Also im not generalizing just saying how easy it is to limit and up the prices on water.

Is it just me, or does Blizzard catch people on youtube/twitch most of all. Maybe it's just easier to be seen on those types of things.
