Hello there folks! Sorry for the late upload. This week's theme is going to be Texture Twisting.. What this means is that I want to see terrains that use only custom textures. This means that for every texture you have, you have to change either the normal map or texture. I'd like to get some custom texture experimention going on and want to see what folks come up with.
If you don't know how to change the normal map or texture of a texture, he's a quick guide:
1) Go into the data editor.
2) Set 'Data Type' to 'Terrain Textures'.
3) Find your texture and select it.
4) Double click the value behind either 'Normal Map' or 'Texture'.
5) Replace whichever you want to replace. Keep in mind that 'Normal Map' values should always end in "Normal.dds".
Good luck everyone, curious to see what you'll come up with!
What do you mean by "Custom" texture? You mean to create our own texture? Do a dds picture and import it and use it? Or use the normal textures of the game but, do something with them.

Like mentioned, I mean that you have to change either the texture or the normal map of every texture you use, in the data editor. You can import and use your own DDS pictures for this if you wish, but it's not required.
I have a dds converter, so i could technically make custom textures. Thnks mozared for the idea, i didn't think to try this. sorry if i don't submit an entire map, but i will try it out for experience
On this one i tried to capture the very centre of my imagination and inspirational essence, take both modern history and expressional impressions and put it in a screenshot.
I skimmed through it and you guys were kinda confused. SC2 has two (or maybe 3) types of normals.
I can talk about two of them, the "orange-y" normal maps wich are red channel filled with white copied to alpha channel green is left alone and blue filled with black are applied to meshes, meaning everything, from doodads, units, cliff edges, effects models, ect. While terrain textures have a "gray scale" normal map, these terrain textures don't actually get applied to any meshes in game, they're just layers in the SC2 mapinfo file (or some other file I forget the name) that render the terrain.
The alpha channels on the diffuses for terrains is a whole other deal.
Well. I don't get this WTE. What are we suppose to do? This looks more like a Weekly Data Exercice...
Is it only this in some words: Take two textures, w/e they are, and do something with that?
No, it is "make a terrain using only non-standard textures", in 'some words'. Mixing up textures and normal maps allows you to create beachy sand, blue rocks, and what-have-you - I want to say some creative textures and terrains based upon that.
Heh, that is pretty genius! It's kind of an optical illusion - when I look at that last picture I don't know if I'm watching some kind of high-rez RTS or a browsergame. Nice one there!
This is so epic. I want your map lol! Just imagine the kind of defence this could come with.... "Minecraft Defence!" lol?
As a side note, why sometimes textures get confused through other textures? Example in attachement of texture bug that happended to me into a Nexus War game.
Edit: Just saw that the bug continute into the Menu's bar on top of the screen. The background of the Menu is not normal...
I think an alt+tab cleared the problem, but it doesn't always work.

Can we use custom models too? ;o

Sure, as long as your texture don't look like the standard ones =P

Here's an example of changing the texture stuff for terrain textures.

hmm..
Tried using Original Minecraft textures...
Textures where not detailed enough because of my GPU 256 MB.
