And hello again everyone! Sorry for the late upload - I spent a couple of days in Paris, visiting Disneyland. This exercise will because of this last a day shorter, and the next one will be uploaded on tuesday the 28th, as usual.
Weekly Terraining Exercise #21
I decided to come up with something simple to see if that attracts people. For this week, our theme will be "Cityscape", meaning you get to make any kind of terrain that looks like a city. Skyscrapers, sidewalks, lampposts - anything you'd expect from a sci-fi Starcraft-like metropolis. Go!
awesome I am looking forward to this one I have been actually experimenting with combining korhal buildings with cliff levels and other doodads on a grid system... this map can be for a top down air fighter game in which its pvp air combat with vikings wraiths pheonix's etc. I am going for a fifth element... starwars corisant feel
Here's something I came up with after about an hour. My main focus was trying to create a nice atmosphere through various lighting effects. Don't think it turned out too bad :)

I was just about to comment to say the city scene you made looks great, but then I noticed
it;' your first post! So... Welcome to sc2mapster. :D

Feel free to Send me a PM if you have any questions/concerns!
As a little update: because there were so few submissions for this one, mainly due to christmas, I'm going to leave it running for another week, seeing as the theme is so open. So take your time folks, and keep up the cityworks!
Whatever you like is allowed, it's not a contest. You could make a powerpoint for all I care. Just note that if it's not easily accessible, it won't get as many views.
It's weird nobody's replied yet Bronxsy - that shit is awesome. It could probably bit a bit better if there wasn't land below your bridges, but aside from that... very nice. Nice point of view for your camera too. The whole thing vaguely reminds me of the Golden Gate Bridge. Very nice work!
Hey first off, thanks! Secondly, thanks for noticing the land! Haha, I made it dark cliffs but you and your eyes! Just for you I made a little quick switch for you attached below. It's not completely gone but makes it look more like its part of the bridge than land.
You're right that it could be better but I just ran outta time for it. =( I was hoping to do more with the cliffs/mountains but just decided to post what I had since it's Sunday.
And yes Golden Gate Bridge is exactly what I was going for! Thanks for noticing. =)
Your terrain is indeed beautiful. The water has a calm and serene charm to it, the bridge feels realistic and the cars that pass on the bridge accommodates it nicely. Though I think the fog kinda ruins it in thumbnail #1 but in #2 it's good.
I suggest making the lightning more evening-like, based on the skybox being used here, it kinda doesn't fit that much with the 6:00 A.M. like feeling goin' on here perhaps make the tint color for everything in general more lavenderish with a tad touch of specular and among other things. The city lights(?) in the back stand out a little too much in my opinion I kinda liked it better in the previous thumbnail. Criticism aside, good job! :D

Damn crappy laptop and being on vacation... I really want to do this one...
This is an incomplete submission however the images are kind of a proof of concept for a top down fighter I am developing.

Well I didn't go far into details but I think it gives you the feeling of a busy city.

I really like how you made the feeling that the cars are actually in motion. :)

THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU!!!!!!!!
Is making video's allowed? I came up with a pretty cool idea for a city theme, but I think it would work better in a video. :) Is that okay?
just post it!!!!!!

Couple pictures from map im working on.
Don't consider this a serious entry. It's from a pre-existing map (4 months old, even) but I thought it fit and looked cool.
Yeah, it's the Catalyst: Cityscape banner if anyone knows/cares. I saw the title and had to post something.
dude I looked for catalyst on battle net and I couldn't find it!!!!!!!
With the week extension I decided to do another one for this. I made a bridge over water that connects 2 tunnels (1 going into a city).
