While we're slowly encroaching on the 100th WTE (for which I've got something somewhat special planned), it's time for one more lazy subject! This week we'll have another 'Do that doodad!'. For those who missed the earlier ones (WTE #67, #77 and #91), the concept of 'Do that Doodad' is that I pick one doodad, along with a minimum size, and you are required to build any kind of terrain you like as long as it includes the doodad in question. This time, the doodad of choice is "Space Platform Vents" while the size is "At least 300". This means that you need to use the doodad 'Space Platform Vents' in your map with a size of at least 300 - aside from that you're free to terrain as you like. Since this specific doodad has two variations, you can use either one of them.
Some one should contact Huskystarcraft, or Day9, or another popular starcraft caster to announce our 100th weekly terraining exercise :D . Just a thought.
Lets see some texture swaps for a change or at least some custom tile sets. The vents have several particle emitters that can be retextured for fun effects.
Tonigh I had some more free time, but absolutly no idea. So I just added a couple doodads here and there to create a kind of factory where you could work. I don't feel the result to be "awesome", but it's good for the couple minutes I've invested in it.
However, something like this repeated multiple times for different building would make a really epic city ;)
Wow. How'd you get 'OPERATIONS BOX' and the radioactivity symbol on the side? Chocolate waterfall is pretty epic. What about the small door-thing next to the bottom of the stairs? And the... doh, can you just upload the map?
Here's my entry... Korhal Skypartments. Complete with flying sharks, windows and an advanced heating system.
I would have made more, but unfortunately I made the pathing before I placed 300/300/300 SPVs. So I was left with one skypartment and the rest I will make later, minus Vents.
EDIT: Actually, the whole idea of WTEs is to get people to learn terraining on their own and in a community at the same time, which is one of the most effective ways of learning.
Brood will from now on out be known as Willy Wonkah. Embrace your new nickname!
Cool stuff to the both of you. In both cases it's hard to find the original doodad again, which I think is a good thing in this doodad's case. I specifically liked the green neon-ring in Willy's picture: it adds so much to the terrain yet I did not even consciously notice it was there until the last 'without-the-doodad' picture.
Wait... WHAT? I'm the Mighty Fenix! The Tassadar's and Raynor's best friend! I'm the blades of Aiur! The power of the Khala itself! Not this...ugly weird Wonka guy!
Hey there, you should try to take the screenshot directly from the editor, much more easy and faster ;) You have a great start, a couple different doodads, on something like a very tall building higher than the blue-ish sky... (At this point your far far in the air when you're higher than the blue sky) I like the other things in the background in the fog. It adds something to don't feel alone on this tall building. Anyway, I think you need minimally two tips, first, use more doodads, second, don't place them all line-up. Mix things a little. Change scales, maybe change colors, why not. So basicly, keep going, keep searching, hide that doodads, inspire yourself from it to do something else ;)
I've not yet worked again on this even if it is really usefull in terraining. It saves alot of search time. I would just need a new comp to do those cause it's a pain in the a to work in Photohop while having the editor opened. My comp is really bad =_=. *Cry* It's ok... I can still do epic things with this poor comp ;)
Looking alright for a start there. Perhaps a bit repetitious, though - see if you can add some textureplay, variation and perhaps some additional things on the side of the map (more buildings to make your 'roof' stand out more?).
Hey Mozared, do you think it would be a good idea to keep creating these All-doodad-pictures ? (I got my own idea about those, but I want to know what the others think as well, I would not do those only for me)
Sure - all doodad terrain gives the insinuation that the doodads are the walkable terrain, which gives the map as a whole are more awesome feeling. As long as you give a proper reason why the doodads are impassible (terrain-wise) it's always nice for a background filling.
Well done... You know what, I don't want to live there for sure. You got the contaminated atmosphere with this pure green and grey. However, I think you could have add more green cracks on the ground, many small crystals here and there, because right now it looks like, POUF a crystal growth there, POUF another one here... it's not like... beeing contaminate slowly where everything everywhere is growing, getting bigger and more contaminate. I wonder if you could have add some crane parts to fake mining those crystals. I like the acid rain, but nothing splashing on the ground... I've recently re-discover a doodads named "Water drops" where it does this effect on the ground. You could also have add some water for the lowest crystals, since it's raining... I like the rafinery, kind of funny. I very like the broken bridge or whatever in the first picture. I think you could have played a little more with this kind of cables here and there. Maybe adding a couple pipes on the ground as well. I also feel the ground to be empty next to the way where the trucks deposite the green minerals like in the 2nd and 4th picture. Maybe some truck wheels, traces on the ground, pipes. I also very like the green water pool, really well done. Anyway, in general, you have well performed at adding the doodad and making it part of the terrain!
Weekly Terraining Exercise #99
Evening folks!
While we're slowly encroaching on the 100th WTE (for which I've got something somewhat special planned), it's time for one more lazy subject! This week we'll have another 'Do that doodad!'. Good luck, and let's celebrate next week folks!

I'll poke Day9 and tell him to drop what he's doing, 'cause this shit right here....

Oh cool, a factory that makes liquid chocolate from radioactive waste! Yummy

This stuff looks cool. Makes me wanna figure out how to make 'em.
That's why I post my maps.

LOL, I was seriously not thinking this to be chocolate. But, if you want... however I would not drink that chocolate if I was there, hahaha.
And SGTMeowmers, here is the map attached ;) Most of the used doodads are from Space platform - something with different scales. Take a look ;)

oO? I don't think we're speaking of the same thing... In other words, do you think creating more of these would be helpfull?
