As you're reading this post, you might be asking yourself "Sonoffagun! Isn't the WTE always updated on monday? It's still sunday? WHAT IS THIS MADNESS?!", and you'd be asking yourself rightfully so. There is however, a very simple explanation: I'm gonna go off on a small 4-day holiday to another part of the country with the girlfriend where I most likely won't have (proper) connection to internet. This is why I won't be able to upload a new WTE tomorrow, and am doing it today, on sunday. Next week's will be on monday again, as per usual.
With that said: this week's theme is "The River". What does this mean? Well, that you create any kind of terrain that has a river as its main focus. Whether it's jungle rapids or a dam is up to you - as long as the water's flowing!
Good luck, hope you've created some cool stuff once I get back!
Ever wondered how a pit into hell just happened to be in Tristram, well 30 years ago there was the dog river........ Oh yea, don't whiz on the electric fence....
Very nice indeed good sir! I approve muchly. But yeah, welcome to SC2mapster! Keep up the good work buddy, nice and original idea you got there.
Deadzergling, that's crazy hahaha.
And nebuli, looking very artistic, not sure if the water wants to be made a bit clearer or if you're going for the fog over the river obscuring the flow undernearth? But yeah, liking concept very much atm.
Thanks! I've been lurking these forums for a couple weeks now as I've been working on a map. I did a little terraining in WC3 but I've never had much motivation to complete a project until now, so I figured I'd register and contribute back since I use you guys so much for inspiration and tips.
That looks... interesting to say the least. That said, it doesn't really feel like the river is moving. It just looks like it's a small creek or something. Maybe try using flat waterfalls to create the illusion of flowing water. Also, try to do some more with the shores, they just feel completely barren.
I've currently just done a 5 minute oriental-esque cherry blossom river lookalike... Not complicated or intricate, but just liked the look and peaceful idea of it :)
Might do something more ambitious when I can get some decent time in.
That already looks alright. I'd suggest doing more with the riverbed though. Maybe add some rocks and seaweedy plants. I'd recommend using the Xil LOS blocker for those.
I liked the first rendition better personally Nebuli, was a lot more like how you would expect a real river to act, most the action at the waterfall. The second rendition it looks like someone went crazy with a white spraypaint can, and it looks like the river is flowing against the waterfall too, which I am guessing is not what you were going for.
Very nice on the River Styx there, I considered something similar but since you had done that I decided to go with a yellow river. Then felt dogs getting toasted on an electric fence gave it more character... But very nice on yours.
The river looks like it should in say fall or winter time, which is a very nice effect, but the bridge by contrast seems rather low. Bridge should either be higher or be covered with dead water critters as that bridge would definitely be hidden by the river come summer time.
Is a nice little scene there, just wish there was more going on in it. Like a pop can floating down it or something, just something going on! Too peaceful! (Not that this view is very objective considering what popped into my head for a 'flowing' river idea...)
Weekly Terraining Exercise #69
Hello hello folks!

I will perhaps continue with this i am not sure, anyways here's a bridge:

Yeah the fog is a pain. I want the land to be partially in the fog but I'd prefer to mostly keep the water out of the fog :\
Also making the river more transparent might not be a good idea. The river is really like 1 centimeter deep lol.
How's this?

That second screen looks much better Neb, the added elements to the water top it off well. Top effort sah *salute*

I really just put a few more flat waterfalls in ;)
Also, do you think you'll be making a river? I'd be curious to see what you do.
Also, wow I'm close to 1000 posts 0.o

Haha, it's from another account on the Curse network. I used that login and I guess it kept the join date.

Haha, ah okay, I have another curse account on the minecraftforum :p

In the editor with everything moving, the river most certainly looks like it's flowing the right way :P
@Nebuli2: Go
Yea, but I can't see it in the editor, I just see the 2 pictures :P
