I second that :) , I like the idea of the protoss statues holding the bridge and the suspension bridge is a challenging one especially if you want any sort of slack.
Hi guys, seriously, there is a lot of awesome stuff in here. I was not expecting to see my name in the the WTEs but ya, somehow I gived a couple of ideas, so… Great thing they sometimes work =D I’ll go through all posts because they all deserve a compliment. We are awesome.
Ok so, I really like this bridge. However, as Mozared pointed out, the low ground next to it makes it a little bit weird. Also, the terran stuff on the left, I feel it’s should be pure protoss, should it? When you look at the bridge, at the kind of gate… only protoss lives there. Haha. I would like to point also that you did a great work with the texture, even if it doesn’t looks quite polished at 100%, having no smudge between the rocks and the compound or whatever terran terrain is that, is a great thing. I never saw huge rocks going through the asphalt. Something I very like on the bridge is the angle you made where the middle is higher than eatch sides. It looks realistic. I think you could have made it like, twice longer over the same valley but much larger with the same grey-ish fog. I’d give a 7/10. Great work, need a little bit of polishing ;)
Um, how to say… Very nice there. You really got the feeling of floating island with buildings on them. This is really awesome. If I had to choose between your four pictures, I would pick the first one. The second one is way too dark, but not only this but, we lose the lightning effect of your LOS blocker I think? You should try to make the light comes out really good through this very dark atmosphere. The third picture the sky doesn’t really fit in there. I like however how the last big light is more a light blue. It makes it different from the others, more unique, more important, it’s the last light, the biggest, before you leave! Anyway, the contrast was much better between your black and grey than light blue and grey. The last picture is great. But, you lose the contrast again between grey and grey. If the background was black like in the first picture, it would have been awesome. The lights would have pop out from the dark grey environment. So ya, the best I think is the one with the biggest contrast which is the first one. It is close to black and white like the 4th, but they few colors fit pretty well. I think I would try to make the last light more illuminant, more light blue maybe, omni lights maybe? I would rate this as a 7,5/10
You bridge is clearly on of the best. Not only has it a pathing, but the lightning on it, the snow on it… I just don’t know how you did that… oh well, maybe. Is the snow on the bridge in fact some white fog that you scaled so it looks like snow but in fact it moves? Anyway, I don’t even recognize the used doodads… The thing I like the most is the snow getting on the bridge sides. You got it really well. You also got a pretty dam awesome night vision bridge. You’re lightning is… really close to perfection in your situation. Really great. However, in the 2nd picture we see too much the bridge arms or columns; I don’t know how to say, through the fog. Your fog, like in your night vision, should cover the entire very bottom and create a small grey gradient. Well done. Surely 9/10 if you fix the fog =P
“We require more Py… Columns!” This bridge really feels protoss style. It has so many hexagons in that, from the columns, but also the decals on the ground of almost the same size and the texture itself. I know how this can be long placing like 200 columns lined this way lol. But here the result is looking great. I also like that red laser line. It’s the new type of street lights :P . I like how the fog is really heavy, but unfortunately, it doesn’t cover the base of the statues. I think it would have been much better without the base… but it’s stuck to it so we have to find solutions to hide those annoying things. A last thing about this bridge is the size, when you look at the cliffs, then look at the bridge… you feel like the bridge is so freaking huge for a small unit. (I’m speaking more in comparison as real life then in the game itself.) Anyway, great job, 7/10 of course.
First about, well done man. You did great use of the power lines. There is some trees in the background, plus the grey sky… oh crap a wall of water is coming.. run if you don’t want to be wet! Ok um.. xD Forget what I just said. Your bridge at first look… is looking awesome, then slightly after we see that it’s not curved except the cables… then we see those very stretched textures… Then you come back to the bridge itself, a lot of the same stupid doodads scaled in like 500x10 to get the largest bridge possible but not having anything exceeding under. It’s fine. I think the idea is really great, but I think the textures are actually making your bridge a bit worser. You can’t really do much about it except trying to find a better doodads already scaled at good size or close to. I think you could have had some spotlight or something near the bridge or even in the water such as omni light blue, pink, to make the water have some interesting colors. I would rate this one as 7/10 also. This is better than just “passable” but woser than “this, this is really awesome”
So ya, great WTEs ! This is so nice =D So be in the party, I might do something tomorrow or this week end. But I surely want to do one no matter how good it will be.
Hmm maybe I'll tweak the fog settings a bit to hide the bases..
As for the scale of the bridge, I have a suspicion this is a bridge largely for show than sheer practicallity.... maybe it'd look better if/when I terrain the rest of the map...
I really wish I had some time to make some of these maps playable. Seriously, these bridges are so amazing. Joecab and Kanitala's bridges are my favourites, I think, though I don't dislike any of them. If I'd see those in a random map I'd play I'd fistpump at the awesomeness. Everything about them seems right, and I'd love to see them completed with more doodads/terrain on the sides.
Aw man, Blizzard fix your shits D: Actually, I had a very nice start and probably an awesome idea would have come... if the editor had not fucked up my map. I saw this bug before. It happended to the creator of Build & Fight custom where in the editor the cliffs get screwed up. I don't know what causes this... I have nothing on the map except a mix of 4 textures and this cliff. After saving my map by automatisme ( I'm always doing Ctrl+S) the textures of the ground overlayed the textures of the cliff. I took the first screen shot. Normally, the manmade cliff is green-ish grey from the Bel'Shir tileset, like the second screen shot. Then, thinking restarting the editor would maybe fix this, I restarted it and loaded back my map... I got as result, the third screen shot.
So yeah, this suck. Patch the game blizz!!!
I'm going to post on the bug report forum on battle.net.
You got an interesting mix there! Pretty simple, but the result is great. I very like the mix with the Korhal building I think and the normal cliffs. The texture is well chosed also and winter style terrain are really nice. We don't see them very often, but when we do, we are astounded.
One thing I would say is you need your shadows... you point of view is pretty far so alot of shadows are removed. To prevent this, you have to go in the camera, change the shadow distance to some very big number haha, and then do view camera and move around like normal. You will kind of look through the camera that sees the far shadows but like if it was your normal view. Well, when looking very hard, it's hard to say if you got the shadows or no lol.
Anyway, I like also the creeped moutains... (saw that when looking very hard) There are many small details around your bridge... such as the flying thing in the 6th picture haha.
+1 to whoever find the word "Blizzard" 3 times in the seven pictures =)

Haha, thanks a bunch. It's actually the Tarsonis building, but close! It's not really intentionally winter-y terrain, though, it's just Meinhoff with different lighting. I think that part turned out alright.
Dunno about the shadows. Usually I have my graphics a bit lower than medium but I turned them up to ultra for the screenshots.
Yeah I almost feel like I spent too much time detailing the base and not enough on the bridge, rofl. Here, I'll attach the map for you to check it out for yourself, if you'd like.
Advice from a data editor for the easy way, just have the main Doodad type actor hidden with a pathable bridge like footprint and then hang all your visuals from the skeleton. No hidden terrain cells needed.
Like the second submission for proving the bridge is pathable.

Working on making a map you can fistpump about. It's quasi-melee, and it will probably come out with HOTS since it's using a mod I'm working on that is also HOTS dependent, but I can still work the terrain.
Hmm, the first time I don't put a backstory (I think) and this happens. The crappiness of the terran outpost was probably what caused my brain death, but the idea is that the bridge wasn't set in the SC universe. It's just a bridge that predates the era of man and so it's become a national monument and blah and people built a nice little checkpoint and parking lot nearby.
Mate, could you not quadrouple post? If you find you have something to add just after posting, just edit your first post please. Thanks :)
Either way - the beginning of that looks interesting, but it's by far not as cool as your original bridge =P. Hope to see more added to it, should be quite cool :)
