Last week resulted in maximum profit from the WTE - this week something simpler, a suggestion made by Telthalion in the WTE idea thread.
Weekly Terraining Exercise #30
This week's theme will be Two-tone. This means you can make any landscape or situation you want, with the only catch being that you can only use two colours. You can use different shades of colours (say: types of brown and types of red), but be reasonable - I want it to be obvious from your screenshots that your entire terrain is focused around play with two colours. Whether you use them in contrast or decide to mix them up in some way is your choice.
Good luck everyone, hope the details are clear enough!
Well. there is a quick go. I plan on adding more detail as the week goes one, but the point, I suppose, is to make a volcano somewhere in an arctic area. The Char Rock and the Nif Snow are meant to contrast with each other, as is the AshWeather and the white (snow!) Ash Weather. Eh, it could use more detail, and I was not entirely sure what to do for this weeks, but there it is.
Edit: I went ahead and added a little more texture variation, so, there are some transitional colors that, in my opinion, make it look a little more natural.
I love your picture! But, of course, it is a picture of the best angle of view :P When you look around, there don't look to be alot of things. It could be great if the entire map was this kind of place :P
It would be great if Blizzard was adding a wind that effect the doodate. So the fire could be in angle, the smoke that move in a direction insteed of the sky...
The blue water, which is the Bel Shir Skybox reflected, and the Auir/Bel Shir Palm trees, to create a small "park" in a desert fantasy town I am creating. This map has about 92 WoW doodads, though I won't use them all. Through mods I add about 60 WoW imported units (using two mods). 1 mod, which is underwork, will be universal to all my Cortex Roleplay Maps (thanks to Delirium for the Data). Then, each map I have will have an additional unit specific mod. This one, which is about 3 weeks (at least) off, would have a specific mod with the Ramenkah, Tol'Vir, AQ40 units, and several others. (Thanks to all my friends who donated their publishing space!) I made this with the two tone WTE in mind, I hope you all like it! Feedback is always welcome.
You want me to do a short cinematic? I could choose some kind of musics (of Two Steps From Hell, my favorite group): All drums go to hell (this is an album, but it could be nice a song of this on your map) or suspence musics, epic musics? What ever.
Of course I will mention that you made the map xD. I'm not that cheap...
I have the entire collection of Two Steps From Hell in my standard playlist ;) My "Orchestral/Epic" music collection comes out to something like 1500 tracks.
I've thought about making a video for the map, but I'm not sure there's enough to it to make an interesting one. It's entirely possible that I'll make something for it, but I'm not sure yet - will need some playing-around-with.
Finally finished mine. I wanted to create a little video of it, but when I was done with everything, I realized that my pc isn't powerful enough to record it. >.<
"That is pretty damn cool", I said out loud as I saw those pics, Exaken. While looking at just the thumbnails, it looks really alien and over the top, but when looking at full screenshots it makes a lot of sense and reminds me vaguely of Warcraft 3. Nice work, and also good job on using these two fairly hard colours that well - I expected to see a lot of black/white going in to this WTE.
I acutally didnt have the time to make something. I could this morning, but with only 45 min, what is pretty small. I could possibly make one tomorrow even if the next WTE is out.

Interesting ^^
Here we will see who use the lights correctly :P I'll try to make something... um, flashy =D
Working on projects:
Two colors as in two texture colors only, or are you also meaning to include doodads here?
@Yeti434: Go
In my original idea I was thinking primarily lighting, not so much texture colors.
But in the end, I'd say probably "texture colors with mostly-matching doodads" would work well enough with the exercise as given above.
The terrain I'm working on has mostly neutral greyish textures, with strong blue and yellow lighting for the two-color aspect.

My first WIP shot.
Got wrangled into helping someone with triggers, so it probably won't progress much until later tonight.
my contribution, a newspaper advert for a salvage yard.

I like that, it sets a sort of desolate feel to the map. I'm sure the map is going to be pretty amazing to play when it's done

Could I have your map, to see how you made and get some inspiration?
When you look at my videos, do you recognize the songs I used? Most of my videos are at this threat: http://forums.sc2mapster.com/general/general-chat/19726-scbroodsc2s-cinematics/#p1

Here's the map.
And yup, I have every song used in those videos in my playlist currently.
