A pollution-ish theme? IE. a hill completely covered in garbage, with dead trees and yellow grass around it, or mutants living on top of a vespene generator.
How about you (Mozared) post an initial picture of, say, a landscape, and the person below will have to re-create that landscape in the editor, and take a screenshot that looks like the image. In their comment they will also post an new landscape image, and so on. If you wish to work on an image, you will comment beforehand in reply to the comment, so that another person does not work on that project at the same time. No 2 people may work on the same image. For you to be allowed to post an image, it must be accompanied by an editor re-creation, and vice-versa. Also, prompt them not to be too mean with their image; try to imagine how difficult it may be to re-create in the editor. Example: While the valley image is cool, it would be quite a great deal more challenging than the icey image (though you would need the beta editor for that one).
Also, if someone takes longer than 1 or so day(s) to re-create the image, then another person may step in.
It would probably work out a bit better if everyone had the full week to recreate the same image, and then another image be brought up in a future WTE.
For easier navigation, how about adding a short description to each weekly excercise what it is about, e.g Deserts, Mountains, Underground, etc. E.g I am looking through all of them but the names do not always say much.
Hey, that's a good one! It's a tad harder to set-up, though: numbering the textures was a lot of work to begin with, can you imagine numbering every single doodad? If you've got any suggestions for making this easier I'm all ears, though I'll try and think something up myself as well - this thing sounds too cool to pass up.
You could group doodads by theme (terran installation, protoss, jungle, space platform, wreckage, etc).
Or just pick a list of interesting (or creatively uninteresting) doodads similar to the Do That Doodad WTEs - then people randomly roll off that list. Then we all get to giggle at the one guy who ends up with Barrels as his primary doodad.
I think I would only find through all doodads, the less interesting ones, make the list of them and then pick randomly one and make it be interesting. Doodads that aren't rocks, trees, bushes, houses... mostly some that alone, looks really bad.
Edit here is a bunch of random hots doodads. Some of them could be really hard to add into a terrain, but if they are in the doodad's list, it's there to be used so, use it!
How bout you assign each letter with a number, you pick a number, and any doodad that has that letter in it, or starts with it for certain ones, then you use those. easier than numbering many a doodads.
So say I choose number 8, and number 8 is the letter c and any doodad that has the letter c in It I can use, not sure what to do with letters like a, e, I, o and u personally, but just want to get the gears turning in the head. (or even you cannot use a doodad with the letters and you could choose 2 or 3 numbers)
I'm thinking you could roll "1-26" 2-3 times, then, in order, find the corresponding letter of the alphabet, and use any doodad(s) that show up. If no doodad, retry.
Also, here's one:
Re create you worst terrain ever and/or your first terrain ever.

Edit: I've added cliff and ramp and enviroment aswell, which adds up to a total of 1120 doodads. Good luck with the lottery. =P
Random fact: There is a total of 8381 actors.
Sounds good to me ;)

City of the dead!
Oh! What about this: Create a map using only HotS assets, units, and tilesets.
I imagine this will probably be the first one after HotS launches. But for now a lot of us are still stuck with only WoL.
I've already got some big plans for WTE's regarding HOTS, and you'll see cool stuff appear there; don't fret.

I'll look into this. I can't do it for every WTE or it'll clutter up the list, but I should be able to clarify some of the more unclear names.
Dark forest, really big trees prevent the sunlight from reaching down, should be a place to expect spiders and the like.
Can we have a DOODAD lottery?

I personally love the re creating the worst or the first terrain idea :)
In the actors data you can sort them on doodad type, I´ve selected all of structures and props and then copy pasted them into Excel, which surprisingly worked. Then renumbered them. Here is it on Google drive: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApBQzZG9Te7GdHNDVzh2b1JWczE4a2s4a011eUpnQ1E&usp=sharing
