Alrighty folks - I've got an interesting WTE coming up for you next week, where your terrain might actually be used in a big project! I'll refer you to last night's Mapcraft for more info. For this week, something a little bit more ingenious.
Weekly Terraining Exercise #39
This weeks theme will be Two-fold Textures. What this means is that I want you to grab the 4 first texture from terrain A and the 4 last textures from terrain B in order to create anything you'd like. It's up to you to decide what terrain A and B are. For example, you could use the first 4 textures from the Agria tileset (Agria Dirt, Agria Dirt Rough, Agria Rock & Agria Grass Yellow) and combine them with the last 4 textures from the Monlyth tileset (Monlyth Rock, Monlyth Tiles, Monlyth Bricks & Monlyth Plates). This would create the grassy Agria environment with Protoss-temple-like textures in it. If you are unsure about how to use textures from different tilesets, look here.
Good luck everyone - bit of an oddball WTE, but I hope people turn it into something nice! :)
I'm pretty sure that for me the textures are diffrent when browsing in the data editor and creating a new map, i'll will take the last when creating a new map, heads up though it might be some confusion.
Xil Dirt Cracked, Xil Sand, Xil Rock Cracked, Bel Shir Brush, Bel Shir Grass Light, Bel Shir Grass Dark, Bel Shir Bricks Large, and, er one more I cannot remember.
It is supposed to be a small desert island.
Edit: Oops! I just realized this map doesn't actually meet the conditions of the WTE. :( The textures aren't in the right order, and furthermore I just realized the last texture was from Agria.
I've been busy as hell lately. Got a few showcases in my profile if you're interested, though. I'll probably join in a WTE or two once I finish my work on AoS2 and get more mapping time free.
I just thought of something for this, the tilesets will be Shakuras (Sand, Sand Dark, Dirt Cracked and Stone) and Char (Mud, Rock, Red Cracks, Lava Cracks). Should post something in the next few days.
Currently working with the first textures of the Castanar tileset: Castanar- Panels, Tiles, Small Tiles and Grid. And the last of the Korhal tileset: Korhal- Dirt, Dirt Cracked, Dark Concrete and Tiles. Hopefully i will be done within a few days.
The overgrown jungle pictures look nice, but maybe a bit bland. Maybe add a few more rocks, small plants, vegetation, etc. I don't get what the first picture's supposed to be. Is it right after the impact? If so, then why are there no visible signs of destruction besides the crater (burned trees, fire, etc). And also, the walls in the other 5 pictures weren't there before (assuming there's a timeline being represented there), but they appear to be destroyed by the impact. Adding a few rocks around the crystal might also make it feel more natural, it feels weird that a crystal would crash down into a planet and remain intact. Adding the rocks can make it look like the crystal was exposed by the crash.
Anyway, here's mine. Inspired by a Warcraft 3 terrain by Void. It's supposed to be some kind of Xel'Naga interplanetary gateway between Char and Shakuras. I might have done a little too much on the Char side and maybe not enough on the Shakuras side, but Char has like 10 times as many doodads that can fit while Shakuras has practially none. The lightning is slightly weird near the gateway because of the zhakul temples I used to get the effects on the gate.
Map is attached in case someone wants to take a look.
The first picture is the terrain before i put any doodads down. It is there to show the terrain mix and match. Fire wouldn't be suitable because it would have been out long before the jungle would have started to regrow. The five pictures were taken when i finished. I did not add, or remove, anything inbetween taking the pictures. Yes, I could have spent the extra time to make the area around the meteor look more realistic, but i did not. thanks for the feedback.
Yeah, also had it in mind while making this. Got the idea to use the vespene gas pickups as an effect when trying to replicate the old raid dungeon portals from WoW.
Using the first four textures of Ulaan and the last four of Monlyth, (And Shakuras lighting and cliffs, is that cheating?) I created a small map where two factions are fighting for the minerals scattered about. The terran have a mining compound, and of course as this is a protoss world, their temples and what not are present on the map as well.
First time I've done a complete map for one of these, and I kind of feel it needs to be turned into something playable. Going to attach the map so yall can look around as the screenies only show so much of it.
Well, I really like your. The first time I saw your printscreen, I though it was modified to add the image of the portal... But once I oppened the map... I wouldn't imagine this. Very nice. I also like the Doodate mixed with the terrain object for the Shakuras Hero Gate. Gj.
Starting with Haven 4 firsts, and Char 4 lasts and I'm giving myself a subject: Lost Temple inspired by Duncs878's second image.
Edit: I've done my map, I got the Fraps video but.... I can't start WMM to save it and make it be way lighter caus my sound driver need to be updated. I also can't directly upload it to youtube caus it is too heavy (721Mo). So, I will upload and post once I'll be able =)
Damn it i didn't have time to finish this one, jumped in to far at the deep end and now the exercise is almost over even though this is one of the few terrains i would like to continue on. I tried to build this quite big city on a astroid/meteor (Whatever the correct term is) but there is still some work on the roads and other shit. I'm pretty happy with the outcome but when you think your terraining has no flaws you stop developing new skills and i'm like never happy with my terraining so...

would what I have been working on apply? It uses Mar Sara dirt, Mar Sara sand, Mar Sara Concrete and Mar Sara Panels. Not much else.
Edit: I reread the post nevermind... I gues it won't work. Sorry for your time. I'll leave the screens here though just cuz I love the result.
Ok, I got one.

Sorry :(
Mozared how come you never show off any terrain in these?
@Keyeszx: Go
Because if Mozared shows off his terrain, this happens.
It's too beautiful for our mortal eyes.
@hawkerhurricane: Go
Indiana Jones moment? Reminds me of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Yeah Mozared talks the talk lets see him walk the walk for once :)

So finally, I was able to render my video. I had some more troubles with my comp, anyway, working, for the moment.
So here is what I got to:
