I am starting to like small but well done projects. Have any like this? Post screens here! I'll start. Here is the start of a small Dominion base on Mar Sara and a bit of the surrounding area. It still is not quite done, but I'll take feedback if you want to give any. I'll also do the same for you :)
That's pretty good, but the terrain textures could use some work. You could probably put some grass outside the base and inside where it makes sense. You could also have a bit of concrete inside the base, possibly with some decals. You could also add the foliage. Foliage can actually look quite good if you modify it in the data editor so that the models it produces make sense on the textures. Otherwise, this terrain is quite detailed. I especially like you did with the last photo. It adds a sense of realism to the base. One other thing: extend the farclip on the camera so that you can see the sky, it looks much better than empty blackness :)
Also, I've got an image with a wider view on my sunset on Xil terrain.
Well, now that my other project has died due to map corruption, I've decided to start again on something new! I may post this in another thread at some point, but at this point I'm just trying to figure out how to best use the textures/doodads/ I've chosen to display the environment I am portraying.
This is supposed to be a desert/tropical island type of environment.
That's really quite nice looking. I don't have many ideas to improve this other than making the ocean deeper, and maybe smoothing out some of the terrain.
Random terrains aye? Well i terrain when i'm bored so i got a few. I'll try to narrow them down to the most well done parts.
First three: A lava/char arena I just discovered a huge good looking char battleground "set" and placed it in lava and i did a small arena in the center.
Hmm.. my other terrains doesn't fit in with "mini", post them anyway? =D
Damn Sheo. It's such a shame lava works in such an annoying fashion, else I would've totally told you to elevate the whole place and make it look like you're on the side of a huge volcano with the battlefield 'sticking out'. Lord of the Rings style.
that kinda reminds me of when Anakin nearly dies to Obi Wan! It looks pretty good to me. I'll zoom the camera out so hopefully I get a skybox although I'm not too sure how to add one in a game though.
The Island looks pretty good as well. I can't find anything obviously wrong with it.
I'll redo the camera as well as play with the terrain textures a bit and see where that leaves me.
I probably went a little overkill on crates and barrels, but I like how they can be used pretty much anywhere as boring space fillers. If anyone knows why my ground decals disappear sometimes, please tell me. Any better? Lol... after all that I forgot to change the symbol on the units. The last pic is with the dominion symbol instead.
For starters, the ground decal thing is just a glitch. I think the only thing one can do is restart the editor.
On the terrain, it looks a lot better now. The only thing I can think of off the bat would be to make the terrain inside the base a little less "perfect". Make it a bit more cracked, add a piece of grass or plant, add a few little rocks. I doubt they would keep it so manicured.
how about now? I added some sandbags as well as those cracks and stuff you mentioned. I am really really liking it now. I actually had a "holy crap I built that?!?" moment just now looking at my handiwork.
If someone wants to use this for something as lo\ng as I get credit I don't really care :) just ask and I'll see what I can do.
Actually, only thing I can think of, and this is really nitpick-y, is that you might want to make the rocks a little bit smaller. It looks a little using that rock model.
Using "Rocks - Small" might be a better idea, imo.
I did fix that and I'm slowly expanding the size of the map as well. I hope it ends up looking like a decent potential scenario with help from someone who knows triggers and stuff.

Nebuli nailed most of it, but I also think it's a bit weird for a Dominion base to have a sign with "Mengsk Lies" emblazoned on it.

Oh lol. Good point.
Then again, it could have just been vandalized by those prisoners who're about to be shot...

Or as a trap to lure in those nasty ole' rebels.

Thanks! Just trying to get a feel for the island style.
Does these look any better?
@hawkerhurricane: Go
Yep. I think you got the island style down very well. I'd say that this is better than anything you'd made in your now corrupted map.

Well even as it is now the "set" is above lava level at the edges of the map, well i could cover it up with rocks...

thank you.
