I was inspired by the custom buildings topic, and began working on a basic cityscape. It's not really a city size, more of a small town I guess. But regardless, looking for some feedback on if it looks to be any good or not, along with any tips on how to improve. And any other city scape projects folk have goin' on is welcome to be added to this thread.
It's a good start, but it looks a bit to tidy to be a living, breathing town/city. It needs the little details. Adding lots of little things like debris, rubbish, trash cans, loose rocks, the odd plant or stunted tree growing in abandoned backlots and cracked and dirty pavements about the buildings will really bring it to life.
If you wanna see what I'm talking about have a look at some of the campaign missions that feature built up areas, like the scattered towns in 1st mission of the game, and the cityscape in "Media Blitz". Zoom right in and individually pick out all the doodads they used, and the textures used as well (and how they're blended together). Maybe it'll give you some ideas on how to add to your work :)
Good but I'm with /\ ya need a bit more details. It's dry. Lots of very good elements, just need to tie it all together, and make it more abundant with smaller fill doodads like t-cans, power lines, etc.
I had the same idea... you should also incorporate parking lots as well as docking lots using some of the space platform cliff doodads that are similar to the gas and grits doodads. I am doing a recreation of a city in downtown korhal... you should use the billboard signs as restaurant signs as well as the ground object doodad to line the streets that act as curbs....
