After all the crazy contest antics, this week the WTE's back with some more regular assignments for you to increase your skills. In the light of certain recent news messages, this week's theme is "Memorial". It's up to you to decide what the memorial will be dedicated to, as long as it becomes some kind of shrine or such.
Good luck, have fun - turn it into something spectacular!
This memorial I make is not only for one, but also for all those that fought, not in vain, but in service of their people. Remember their actions, their courage, but remember, most of all, of what was told to them.
Executor, Tassadar... This comes too late to you. But the Conclave has witnessed your defeat of the Cerebrate. They know now that they cannot deny the necessity nor the valiancy of your actions. We sought to punish you... While it was we who were in error. You represent what is greatest in us all, and all our hopes go with you.
For my submission guys I need a hand - does anybody remember the name of that unit / doodad which is the turret that's shooting from the Char cinematics? I thought it had 'Tychus' in the name, but I can't find it???
At the end I've not participated a lot in the lasts wtes, but whatever, I'm still there and always watching the epic things that everyone are making. This week however I got inspired by DeltaCandimus' post. My nickname is Fenix, and its my favorite hero. I just created a small video about a very short memory of a night. Sorry if I made mistakes or weird sentences, english is my 2nd language. I'm also sorry about the fps in the video and its overall quality. I should really find a way to save the video into better format. :( Take a look at the map itself and Test Document. Once in-game press Numpad 0 to start cinematic, it will look much better.
I am, Fenix, Praetor Fenix, I do not fear death and I never tasted death. My mind is still there, more powerful than it ever was after all those hundred years. And I remember… through those years, few moments…such as this one. The Zergs were all around like a very thick cloud. I could hear their strange voices, their shrill cries of death. We were about fifty young wrinkled Protoss at an isolated city. We were not expecting this to happen so soon. We thought we could have moved at bright day light. Though, we were wrong. The creep was already sliding on the ground and rising on the buildings. The far fog seemed to move with bright small orange dots sometimes in pair, sometimes…in multiple pairs. The small lights of the city could barely illuminate our faces. The ground was trembling, our blades were ready, the Khala helped all of us to stay focus. There was no way back.
About midnight, as the dark was broke by our blades, all around us the small eyes in the fog were coming. The creep was growing on everything, even us. As the enemy was getting closer and closer, we lightened the main Nexus’ crystal and illuminated the night with a very bright light that revealed our incoming foes and empowered our hope and force. That night lasted longer than we thought as we were bravely holding.
In the morning I saw something that I never saw before. Strangely, the Zerg went back… but more, the city was all but creeped ruins, and my brave allies, are no more than heavy damaged armored corps on the ground with spines and scratches. I was the only one still walking in this city. I took each of the unique crystal of all their armors in memory and went back to Antioch, a place where few years later I’ve seen worser…right in front of the memory crystals.
Lol nuclear. I was trying to make white daffodils but I guess HDR tints and haven plants don't mix XD. Ah heck, I might as well make a custom model. I'll fiddle around and see what I can do.
Hey, any feedback about my sumission? =P Don't say it's too dark, I know it's a little too dark. Though, the night is the night and there is no light in the dark ;) And don't say that video quality sucks, I know as well. Haha.
Note, looks much better in-game, and if you don't see the Zerg and the creep in the video, go see in-game ;)
Well, it is dark, I'll give you that. I really like the contrast between the HDR and darkness, but I would have to say that there were a little too many zealots in there for my taste. They took away some of the feel of "Memorial" and turned it into more of an "Active Warzone". Overall, though, well done. At least 8/10 for sure.
Well thank! Though the idea of "memorial" was not quite about what you see, but more about the story of what you see. Those Zealots died that day in the story and that's the memorial.

EN TARO ADUN, BRAVE SONS OF AIUR!

I think it's either Tychus Turret or Chaingun, I don't know, didn't bother looking that much...
But, my opinion, for an homage to the man, I'd use the Odin. Him devastating Valhalla was unforgettable. Cliché, but unforgettable nevertheless.

Not exactly a shrine dedicated to someone specific but...here's a military cemetery.

I really like that, precisely because it is comparatively understated but has a really nice atmosphere to it :)
@sgtnoobkilla: Go
Aside from the nuclear plants on the ground, I quite like that too. Fiddle with the lightning.
@Kanitala: Go
Thanks! Tried to keep things as simple as possible for this one.

I'm happy with the sense of scale I achieved in this one.
That said, my idea didn't turn out as well in practice as it did in my head.
@sgtnoobkilla: Go
Yeah, after ww2 they had no imagination when it came to gravestones.
@Telthalion: Go
Just go retroneoegyptian!

Those are some nice mountains in the background.
Inspired by the Voyager episode 'Memorial', by any chance?

Indeed. I was happily surprised with how my mountains turned out.

Nope, no particular inspiration for this one.

Hehe, nice one, a whole city destroyed because of a Xel'Naga obelisk. They should've left it on Char, to keep on frying Zerg with it.
Serious, though, nice homage.

I take that back then. 9/10
