It's been quiet around Mapster lately, but since we're still getting submissions the WTE will continue as usual - HOTS should have some interesting stuff for all of us. Tying in somewhat to last week, this week's theme is going to be "Volcano Rumble". Where last week we had plenty of craters to go around, this week I'd like to see folks try to create some actual volcanoes. Anything goes as long as it includes some kind of crater with lava. Obviously, you can do with the side of the volcano as you please as well; whether you toss in a precarious mining operation or some kind of sacrificial altar is up to you.
Interesting starts, but I think you can both spice up the whole thing some more. Right now it's just lava and rock. Play around with some other doodads, see what you can get in there. And Dragoneles; try and somehow create a feeling of height or such. Right now your map resembles 'pools of lava' more than a real 'volcano'.
I like what you've done there, Ark! The theme plays itself out nicely well and the colour contrasts between the Protoss cyan, lava orange and ocean blue makes it very pleasing to look at visually. My main advice would be to see if you could get the actual crater to look just a bit more like a crater; if you raise the 'walls' surrounding it a bit (especially on the left, right and bottom sides) the whole thing should feel a bit more volcanic. I also think those statues on the path up might be a bit much. I really like what you've done with the pillars in the volcano, but I think you can pretty up that path by using some more variation in doodads, removing some statues and maybe tossing in an Archway or two.
That's actually really nice. It's not a volcano in the traditional sense, but more like lava running out of a big mountain. The lavafall all the way down is really well done. What your terrain really needs is a surrounding area. If you put some time into filling in the rest of your map with (would-be) playable terrain, your volcano could be a great background 'asset' for any volcanic-tileset map.
Thanks for the reply :)
I might indeed make it look more crater-like so if I am to keep the middle statue I must add a tunnel that leads into the volcano crater followed by the pillar bridge (and tint their color to grey or orange because of the hot lava). I will update it.
Weekly Terraining Exercise #83
Hey hey folks!

Have fun, and enjoy your week :)

I think at this point most people are just waiting and hoping 1.5 will be good lol.
First entry and first time doing the exercises for fun.
My submission.

Cool, I like it. :D
Also, my work. Sorry I didn't do the last few weeks' WTEs, I didn't feel content with my work.

Hey hey Mozared! ;} here it is my volcano...
Well, hopefully I got the album working correctly...
I started over and made better use of doodads this time.

+Ark+
Edit: I have finished updating the map.
Hm, i'm thinking about actually doing this this time.
