Last week's theme brought us down to the bottom of the sea in some submissions, and as such I figured it was only fitting that this week will bring us all the way up into "Cloud City". For a straightforward theme, I'd like you guys to make some kind of floating or flying settlement. As usual, it doesn't matter if it's Terran engineered, Protoss deusexxed or a platform on the back of a huge floating Zerg Leviathan, as long as it's up in the air.
I like it. Very cool. There are only a few things I'd point out. How does it fly? We can see some kind of reactors on both sides, but there seem to be no heat, power, fire or anything that demonstrate movement on a static image. Maybe something like up-side-down fire with some kind of particles or idk could add a great touch to the scene. The other thing is the background. The unicolored blue feel like if this was a single big doodads in a model previewer; you know what i mean? So, maybe adding some fog doodads or even the Korhal background could add a bit more perspective.
If you wish to go into more details, because you can always refine a terrain (even those that looks very epic), you could add some "Landing Lights" around the landing pad, you could add some "Space Platform Cables", you could add different type of landing pad such as "Dominion Landing Pad", etc.
If you wish to use some LotV assests, you could add on the landing pad "Korhal Space Port" (which has a couple different very interesting doodads). Oh and last idea, since it flies, it could have multi-level platform. That would add perspective too.
Mmmmh i have alwais wanted to post a pick from wte 100 or so, now i will post two maps from our project, that is an upgraded mass recall on few words... I have redone textures and doodads to match better the cutscene from WoL, i post here because i will never understand if New Gettysburg is based on solid ground or it's floating on mid air, the second map instead is notoriously a "space fortress"

What do you think about it, do they look pretty or they are trash? I honestly think they give you a similar vibe of this cinematic, the destroyed city with that nice orange ashes wind :)
PS: We already gave all credits to Mass Recall like four years ago on our thread... I like the spartan terrain style of mass recall that is very faithful to the original maps (it was done to save map MB size i think, and their maps are so slim and fast to load... Unbelievable!), but they also feels empty to me, and they looks the same and repetitive most of the times, so i decided to update the terrain, sometimes from scratch, sometimes with very light touches... Two years ago we've also had a huge help from iezael that helped us update a lot of maps, especially that episode 3 first release that was ... unbelievable (Facepalm)... I won't add else on ep 3 we spent AGES to fix it.
Actually look pretty good, even if they look a bit cluttered in some areas.
What would be useful is to have a modeller go over some doodads, change the battlecruiser background scene to sc1 behemoth battlecruisers, and the wrecked siege tanks to arclites, stuff like that

Thanks! Yeah some areas are a bit confusionary, Maybe because i am trying to tell The Story Also with the environment ... For the models, we requested and received tons of models, we don't feel that bother people with doodad models would be a good idea, anyway Cacho did a model of crashed behemoth bc that we used for the Norad II :)

I like it much more. Now it feels like moving, you see the fire you see the wind, you can now interprete the picture and understand "this is in the air". I believe it would be even cooler if there was the city background underneath but it's still a great improvement :)
So did he make the model from a blender? Or is it a structure with structures places on it at different hights or does it have attachments? And I think I just learned how to change the sky box been trying to figure that out. But pm me a link to a tutorial if you can or a short description where to find.
Though we've already had themes like that in the past, I don't mind repeating some stuff if folks are interested. Remember, you can always suggest WTE themes here.

This is a low orbit space station just above the clouds... This is my very first map made out of doodads only...
As always, my computer does not support high graphics... So sorry for the bad quality...

I'm attaching a retexture that might be useul for the exercise. It alters the Hybrid gas giant skybox to make it look like a cloudy sky.

I thought of putting the korhal city back ground but i wanted to make the station seem more isolated...
I originally thought the platform hams artificial gravity repulsing itself into the air but I gess not now I see flames I thought it was a space bar.
I Hope we do a spaceship WTE this week.... Like a battle cruiser made out of doodads or a protoss ship totally made out of doodads....
