Those Picture are in the mode where my Computer Yells at my this: "WTF ARE YOU DOING!?! ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME!?!??!!!!" Sooo.. Hmm I do not see the difference. ^^
Better, though you need to remove the 'island'. I've seen people use that all over and it's a common mistake. The problem with it is that while it looks good in water initially, looking at it for longer than half a second reveals that it's actually floating (as it is normally in the air), which makes the whole thing look incredibly silly, almost "inflatable island"-like.
Also, press V when taking screenshots so your fog shows up as actual fog instead of the doodad symbol. Texturing and some more trees as probably a must right now to make it look better, though.
I known mine was kinda bad... The first picture is good when you look only at the beach, but more you move up the eye and see the weird background... It makes it looks crappy.
For the second one it was a try and the screen shot was not taken in with the game view setting so there is a stupid line in the middle of the picture. It is pretty similar to the original picture. But you know... we are limited to Sc2 models. Trees are not the same.
Thirth one is only 1 picture... It will be a part of a soon new video. With the camera movement, it is so better than only 1 picture.
The choke was just an experimental solution, but thanks. ^^
The main problems I see with waterfalls are the transitions. Blizzard makes some piece of s-hit with the giant water tiles (the Warcraft 3 solution was much better, even when we can now use triggers for raise and fall).
It's funny you mentioned I could add some ruins. The screen doesn't show everything. I've worked a little bit more, but I thought it's too bad and too boring. Additionally I think it's strange, if there are some ruins on this small piece land surrounded by water. There're ruins on the map, too.
You mentioned fog. The areas near the waterfalls have fog (maybe it could be more and higher, but I have it)
That's pretty nice. I reckon the first tow pictures could still use some filling up, probably mainly with foliage. On the third one - those trees are imported from WoW, aren't they? On the last one - you'll want to keep adding rocks all along that cliff edge I think, or your waterfalls will look a little out of place. Good start there though.
Currently it looks somewhat akward, but there's some pieces in there that are downright *AWESOME*. What I reckon you should do is cover the entire cliffline with rocks, or if you don't, smooth the area out more. Once this is done, pieces like your waterfall and the awesomely decorated river and jungle around it will start to shine.
I feel it's on the brink of being sick, held back only by the fact that some of it is rock and some isn't.
I've been messing around with that problem, but finding a balance between the two is proving rather difficult. All of one or the other looks bad.
I'm assuming that you are referring to the middle pillar between the waterfalls that looks awkward?
Edit: The more rocks I put into the cliff the better it's looking. Here is a view from the perspective of the first pic and a look up at the cliff side.
Mostly, but not just that. I do think you can cover the whole area with rocks and make it work. The main problem here, I guess, is that rocks and elevation are so completely seperate that they're very hard to mix well.

Just to prove to you I am working on it here ya go. Still need textures though. Did I not tell you you would get rocks? :)

yup I'm on it. Thanks for the "V" tip. Didn't know that. Here is a quick in game shot. I'm testing out the environmental effects.
my contribution for this week.

Here are a few screenshots of an area in an RPG I'm making. I suppose it could qualify as a basin, considering how there are cliffs surrounding it...
-Edit: The last screenshot is in game.
Nebuli, that looks so cool that words can't describe it.
Now, mine. Yeah, no time to boot up sc2 again so here's an old screenshot.
Been a while since I've done one of these but with a new computer running, I figured I'd give it another try.
Anyway here is my submission.

the front needs work. Especially by adding stuff, a lot of stuff :)

I did say that that was on old screenie, didn't I? Lol anyway, yeah, I've added tons of stuff, but, yeah...
Yeah you did say that. I'll work on mine if there is still time but I think this week is basically over.

Alright, I've kept working on my map and came up with a few more angles to show off.

Here are a few more screenshots. I added a little cave.
After a lot more work and time, and an oh shi, I've been working on this for how long? I'm happy enough (or tired enough) with what I have.
Sorry for all the pics, I just kept finding parts to work on.
