Due to a distinct lack of stuff over the past two weeks regarding Blizzcon, I'll try and go with a theme that's more out there this week: "Wastelands". Before we get into all the fancy LotV related stuff and terrains (and the christmas WTE coming up in a few weeks), I figured we'd revisit that good old Mar Sara tileset one last time to create some of the most amazing rocky deserts out there. Here's hoping you're all still up for this!
well I am going to continue to explore the land of the strange. (this particular one called for large amounts of copy paste modify and experimenting with camera angles and strange lighting effects)
I quite like the style you have going there. Painting some rocky textures around the bases of the rocks could help the look, I think. As it stands, there is too harsh of a contrast between the grey-brown rocks and the pinkish sand. Also, perhaps a different cliff model whose color is more similar to that of the rock models you are using could improve the look.
Two first screens look more wasteland like, but I find the other's a bit more appealing. I like this level of detail in a map, it is convincing and it has a clear path/room for unit movement between the clusters of doodads. Which type of maps are you making?
I think a closer camera would work better for a showcase, if only just to hide the black background.
Sorry it took me long to answer back im trying to make a city map with different environments on the sides also trying to make magic with 8 textures. I try to get closer and not catch the black skybox that was a little tricky...
Weekly Terraining Exercise #184
Hello again folks!
As always: good luck everyone, and have fun!

Nah you know I'm almost never sacastic ;)
More seriously, my map is based on mar sara and I'm trying to do a terrain generator, so this thread is perfect for me.
Mar Sara, ey?
To get the ball rolling I'll upload some terrain concepts I made a while ago. It was meant to be a playable map so it isn't a pure terrain showcase.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. Think the scene might benefit from some extra rock doodads as well :)
