So, I'm actually doing a carribean/lost isles-themed RPG/Survival map (okay, I'm trying to do it) and I have no idea what I can add for the terrain.
Here's a map render :
As you can see, it's not very developed, so if you have any idea to improve that... Keep in mind that we'll be able to swim. (at the surface only).
And, on a side note, there will be a day/night system. And every attempt I made to have a decent light system (dusk, mid-of-the-day-that-I-don't-remember-the-name-in-english, dusk, midnight) turned into eye burns. So, any help at this point would be nice. The lights are all based on Bel'shir light at the moment.
You should definitely work on the terrain texturing; just the plain grass/sand pattern on each island is boring. This also goes for the under-water areas; put some stone and mud in there to spice things up. Trees and other natural doodads would also do wonders for the islands, and rocks scattered around under and above the water could make it look more realistic.
Actually, it would be sweet if you could post the map file here, so I could see what I (and others) could do to an island or two.

I do terrain stuff.

And in a Starcraft haiku,
...
That's all I can do!
Well, for now about to nothing has been really done, except the temple. And the temple sucks. The textures are mainly to see where are the isles when I don't show water.
The map will be heroic-fantasy themed, therefore the terran houses don't fit well. And it will be more like lost isles that nobody ever went on (except the ones that made the temple but that was hundreds of years ago).
Oh, and maybe a little bit more of sand on the beach.
And... you changed the light, right ? It looks way better.
Nope - lighting is the same. only thing that may make you think that is I changed the texture under the water. Thanks for the tips! What you need to remember is that the map is using some heavy speculars, so you need to be careful with bright textures like sand so as not to over saturate them.
Also, in the data editor I'd go to the water tab, find the water in your map (Arkuna) and add Bel Shir shorelines to the cliff and beach shoreline options (be sure to use the correct shoreline for cliff / beach, i.e Bel Shir beach shoreline goes to the beach shoreline). That's what gets you the 'waves' where the water meets the land.
Note that the waves don't auto update around the terrain, so if you re-shape the islands, make sure to refresh the terraign objects via Terrain Editor - Add Water - Edit Water - Refresh Terrain Objects.
Attached image is edited so as to more clearly display the 'waves'.
To be honest, I suck at terraining.

I am not a master, I'd design the terrain for you if you send me th map, I will not promise greatness.
If I'd have to start naming suggestions for things to put in and ways to handle it I'd never be able to stop, so I'll try something more hands-on.
See if this gives you any inspiration. Alternatively, try my attachment - mainly for the underwater areas.

Here's the map. Don't mind the triggers or data changes, and feel free to change anything you need.

Thanks for the examples.

thanks, will get to work tomorrow (8PMhere, but been up since 2 fays ago sleepy time is needed)
Ok, I'm not too sure about this; I sort of rushed it, and I'm pretty tired as is, but I gave a go at improving one of the islands. Here are some pics.
Again, not 100% about how I feel with this; let me know what I could change.
Hey, it looks very nice, except one detail :

Ok, here are some updated pics for you.
Yup, that's awesome.

Clearly better, thanks for the tip.
Is it possible to have the map back in order to make the other isles with yours as a reference ?

Sorry for the late response! Sure, Here it is!
I say a volcano in that empty north sector might be a nice visual.
