I've been playing some Dungeons & Dragons lately and it has given me the idea for another WTE Concept: "Dark Chambers". What I want you to create for this week's exercise is some kind of indoor burial ground. Whether pyramid themed or simply a cave with a big zerg corpse, as long as it's indoors and housing the dead it'll fly.
I feel like it's been a while since we saw some pretty looking playable cave maps here. It's good seeing one again, they're still one of my favourite themes within the SC2 editor.
Pretty cool. I wonder how it would look with a ground less "flat", more like made with plateau. It's in a cave, there could be some kind of hills here and there and rock spire, maybe even water drops with small water puddle that could add some reflectivity to the scene. If there is nature growing, there is water. I like the coloration of the scene although it feels a bit weird; where does all that light comes from? Could that be some kind of glowing green crystal patch in the walls? There are corpse of bones... they have been there for a long time, could there be spider web, creep web? There could be some small rocks here and there; there are pillars with angle so they moved so the roof moved... is there a specefic path to get to the temple on the ground that could be represented by a specefic texture mix? Also you speak of kerrigan, but she is pretty well hidden... if you did not say she was there... I might have not even notice her.
So I like it, but I think it could have a bit more storytelling and polish :P
Of course, althought it's not a challenge, it's about getting better; seeing more things, having a second look on what you do, analysing differently.... (i feel like Abathur lol) We have been doing WTEs for years to get better, if i just said your terrain is perfect, that woukd not help you improve. Therefore, i always try to find some points here and there that could be improved. Also, it's always a bit harder to do self analysing when terraining because you know what you want to achieve and believe it works, but it might not. This is why an exterior point of view helps pointing out things that could be better. And as Abathur said, "Perfection goal that always changes. Can pursue, cannot obtain."
Mission 3 in my campaign has a Dark Chamber-ish area. It's only a small area of the map but is it concealed within a cave.
Jayborini also played through the map on youtube. The Chamber is at 6:24 into the video.

Weekly Terraining Exercise #234
Howdy how folks!

As always, good luck and have fun! :)

Nothing big from me this week, just a quick doodle.
This is Kerrigan going into the wrong place at the wrong time messing with the wrong Construct.
