I'm trying to create a town for my RPG but I am kind of stuck in it... (screens attached below).
I want it to be a relatively small town, but the biggest/main town of the planet with the possibilities to defend itself (there's a zerg base in the south).
So my question is, what could I add/change to improve the town? Also do the roads fit (they take away so much space and the town is small, but what else could I take instead)? Same goes for the skyscrapers, too much people would live there, but with those simple houses only it would look like it's just a bunch of ten families living there...
You see I am pretty desperate about this map, I would be happy if I could get some advice for it :)
It feels far too empty. If you're gonna make empty space, make it sort of park-like. Just flat concrete is pretty boring. Also, I'd suggest using slightly darkened colonist hut models for the houses. They mix together into large houses quite well. Another suggestion would be to add more houses, using the suggested model. And finally, I wouldn't recommend starting off with a sort of definitive plan for how the town should be laid out. Just sort of design it as you go; it'll look a bit more natural.

My small device: Resize buildings, make them bigger, and you could add some other doodads, like Dominion doodads and stuff.

As Nebuli2 said, it feels far too empty currently.
My main advice to make it more interesting and also look like a more populated town is to use clusters of buildings, rather than single houses.
Attached: a screenshot from my WTE #47 showcasing the concept.
Here's another screenshot of a small town from a project which you should be familiar with.
There is also the way of Randomizing your town:D, this changes the town every game, and these look very natural when done right.
Here is an example of a city street I made for a movie a while back. Hope this gives you some inspiration!
