It actually took me quite some time to come up with a theme for this week's WTE, but I got something. Might have something cool coming up for you next week as well!
Weekly Terraining Exercise #35
This week's theme will be The Tracks. Inspired by a suggestion by Gurrgel, the idea of this WTE is that you recreate a building or area of some sorts that in some way involves 'tracks'. This could be a monorail track through an empty piece of desert, a racing track for cars, or even an obstacle course for military recruits. As long as it's an area where 'laps' are involved, it goes!
First! =D Anyways don't like the ideas from the ideas thread or what?^ Theres got to be tons of 'em there.
Of to my terrain then; i'm trying to create a "Wipeout" track (Hovercar racing game) with the korhal tileset the challange so far has been the jumps can't really get off with the height brush, i'll try to attach some pics soon =P.
Edit: Here you go! Didn't succeed creating those darn jumps so i'll won't add jumps at all. =(

Well yes, but they're not all very ideal. In fact, a lot of them would probably create some really boring stuff. That, or they wouldn't be interesting at all to do.
Hey Mozared, not sure what exactly you are looking for in a terrain exercise, but I have an idea. How about a "mosaic" theme, where you create an image made of a bunch of different models? It could be a 3D statue type deal, or a 2D image that is made with a bunch of different colored models, like an actual mosaic?
Once again, this isn't really terraining i guess, but I still think that the outcomes could be pretty cool, and fun to do too.
Next time, post suggestions in the global information/idea thread, but thanks :) It's one that ties into a theme that sprung to mind just after I got this one - create a building out of doodads.
That said, I'll probably have something really interesting for you guys next week...
If it is just a screenshot, switch your graphics to extreme. If you don't have a good computer it is going to lag, but it doesn't matter if it is a screenshot. Looks pretty cool though. (Or is this good graphics, and I am just going blind? That is possible too.)
Here we go, I tried to build a Mar Sara based underground Zergling Race track but that didn't work, so threw this together instead, figured I should contribute with something since I came up with the idea :)
Didn't work out perfectly, but I'm quite happy with it anyway, basically, what I had in mind was a system of guarded waypoints for interplanetary (or intergalactic or whatever) travel, not sure if calling it a track is completely correct but either way, this is one of the stations. Had one hell of a time trying to get the Neon Lines to render properly over such long distances but I think it worked out in the end :)
Here is my contribution. I did the monorail idea. I did this in like 30 min so, if it is not that good, I don't matter. There is still something interesting through those rails.
You are in Space and listing to the Radio, when an Commercial gets your interest.
"Howdy Mates in space! Are ye tired of having nothing to watch? Then come to Old Lone's Zergling Tracks, or better known on Mar Sara as Old Lone's place!" The Commercial voice fades out and a country song is playing for 20 secs, then the voice fades in again, "Ye liked that? We will give ye all what you will need on an good old Zergling Track! And if ye feel lucky then you can bet through our safe-bet system! That only asks for ye ID, Living plant and credit pad! Ye can also be a member of Old Lone's Club and get a freecard in Joey's Bar! It will only Cost ye 10.000 Credits and ye will gain to drink for 9.000 credits! We will give ye a ride to Joey's! Find us on Mar Sara, 15 days south from Blackwater Station and 3 days west! Come and have fun mate!"
I have no skills in Triggers(I MEAN REALLY NO SKILLS :D ), if someone would make the triggers for it, then go for it, I will send the map to the Person that wishes to make something like that I can even make a bigger map for it
some up with a concept first. I am currently teaching myself triggers. The easy thing to do is have the zerg characters be controlled by characters and they can collect power ups like mario cart etc.
The more complex thing to do would be to give individual characters to customize their zerg NPC units. Then you would have the NPC's race around the track with custom A.I. following randomized algorithms and paths. Then of course who ever wins earns more prize money giving you the ability to mod your characters in other matchs. You should have the ability to save units you breed... and you can eventual race in different categories from death race to time qualifiers which will force individuals to breed their zerg units by raising certain stats like speed, strength, etc.
You can divide the map into 4 small arenas to create different courses.

does this include the tarsonis rail road?

Yup.

Great to be back and part of the community again!

It looks on at less high graphics but the shadows of the tires don't exist... He should have change the light angle ^^

you know you could make a custom map out of this idea

Ofc, there will always be Ideas, but again, then it depends on if people are willing to do it. I would love to help making a map like that.
