TRying to make a simple Tower defense game. Want to be able to make turrets and photon cannons. Wanted to make a researchable ability to be able to make photon cannons.
so... I made requirement of psi storm ability on photon, made a supply depot with ability learn psi storm
however before learning i can still make photon cannons, and after learning the button to make the photon cannons disappear. Any clue as to what im doing wrong would be helpful.
Did you set the requirement in the builder's "command card+" field, or in the ability's "command+" field? There seems to be a bug with setting requirements in the unit's command card, requirements only seem to work when setting them up directly for the ability.
actually only the builders menu i think. I double click on builder command card for photon cannon and set requirement, also set requirement on button for photon cannon. unsure any other way to do it
You need to edit the "Probe - Build" ability. Click on the "Ability - Info" field and double-click on "Warp in Photon Cannon" and select your requirement from the buttons on the bottom. Setting up requirements for the individual button in the command card will not work.
I think you need to make two requirements in this case. One for learning the ability and one for having it.
Basically, you want to set the learning the ability on the supply depot so that when you research it, it will disappear. Pretty much what you're doing is that you're doing here is setting the requirement for the button to show up on your supply depot. You do this by setting the req to "Count Upgrade - name of upgrade - queued or better". You set this in the actual upgrading ability and not in the command card.
Then, for your builder, you need a "Have" requirement, which you'll also set in the ability (this time the build ability) and not the command card. The upgrade should look kind of like this: Count Upgrade - Name of Upgrade - Completed.
I might have missed something but I dealt with almost the same issue yesterday and it works for me. :)
Edit: And I got the names "learn" and "have" from how Blizzard deals with this. Just search for learn and have in the requirements section and you'll know what I mean.

ok...i think i fixed the button disappear issue, however I can still build before learning the requirement

Oops, I forgot one thing about the "Learn" Requirement. (I'm making a new post so you'll notice it)
It needs to be under a "not" requirement node under "Show". Which you'll set when setting the "Count upgrade - name of upgrade -queued or better".
And the "Have" requirement only needs to be under "Use"
seem to only see have requirements for buildings, not ones for upgrades lor abilities like psi storm
