Making a 5v5 game and need it to correspond. I know it can be done, if you look @ a map like nexus wars, it's 4v4 and what side u pick in lobby matches in game.
Ya that's what I'm saying. I've been trying to get this to work since the beta and no one knows. But I have seen maps like Nexus wars etc where it works.
Its game varients. Set it to 4vs4 or something and lock it. Then make sure your custom mode is default. Right click on it on the first tab to make it default. Else it'll just use the blizzard's custom setting (which is always there).

Yes I understand all that, I've gotten my custom mode to be the only one to pop up, and yes the 3v3 teams are locked. That's not the problem here, the problem is if I drag player 2 to the player 4 slot, it doesn't reflect that change in game, once the game starts then player 2 - who was moved to the player 4 spot in the lobby, which is team 2 - will still be in the player 2 spot when the game starts and back on team 1.
Are the teams locked in map variants? Unlocked fields are ones you can change in the lobby.
Yea I made it so the team sizes are locked, but the players can be dragged in between the teams however the host pleases. The changes don't stick though once you get in game.

Exactly put for me as well. The LOBBY changes do NOT reflect in game. It's retarded. I've tried every variation testing multiple game variants and nothing works.

I actually didn't know about the locking default. That is helpful, thanks. Still need main problem fixed though :\
I don't think it even works for Nexus Wars. Not sure what version it was but it starts with 5 players in team one and 3 players in team 2, then when the game actually starts the teams don't match up anyway.
Ya your right. I just got done speaking with the creator of Nexus Wars and he also doesn't know how to make it work. Apparently not a single person knows how.

Ah I guess I was wrong too, yes players are draggable between teams in the lobby, but they never seem to reflect those changes when the game starts, IN ANY MAP.
There must be a way to customize who is on which team in the lobby...there just HAS to be.
GD IT BLIZZARD THIS WAS SO EASY TO DO IN STARCRAFT 1!!!!!!

Shit it was super easy in wc3 as well and this editor is very similar to that.
You don't unlock team sizes. You unlock Teams. There's a field where each player gets assigned a team. When you pick a player, it should have a dropbox with things like Team1[1], Team1[2], Team1[3], Team2[1], etc. Unlock all of them.

The point is to allow the teams to be customizable.
Most common solution is to allow teams to be picked in-game. Could cause a little chaos right at the start, but if you make it so the host (player 1) sets teams, could be a temporary/tolerable solution.
Idk if this is it but if you have a map initialization trigger that assigns stuff based on players then that could be the issue if u don't have a full house. If there are two players but the second is in slot four, when the loop goes through it will assign what ever is being assign, to the second active player the second time through the loop, no matter the position.
If I even explained that right.
Also in the variants for 'teams' lock in custom teams. Then below on custom teams assign them like arrays. (team1[1], team1[2]... Etc) like mentioned above. And lock them.
I've also noticed that during snap test my allies are flagged as enemies but on bnet they're allied the way my map variants say.
I'm pretty sure blizzard needs to get on this one. I've never seen someone come up with a solution that works. Lots of people say things that begin with, "Have you tried..." which is ironic, because usually they haven't tried the suggestion... or they wouldn't have suggested it, because it doesn't work. :P
I've been watching the forums for a long time on this one (since map publishing was enabled in beta). My map can be played 2v2 or 1v1, and as far as I can tell, there is no way to allow the players to pick slot 1 of team 1 and slot 1 of team 2, and go.
My temporary solution was to kick ai from the game when it starts, so players can add ai to spots that they want to be empty. Problem is, some players try to move the ai around, but you can't do that. You just have to add the ai before adding more players, if you don't want the ai on the end.
So, I'm assuming that blizzard is working to solve this problem without saying hello to eachother, eating, using the restroom, bathing, or fixing campaign issues...

@Zero0018: Go
i think if you set the player color in the map "player properties" menu it will lock the starting locations
No that doesn't work. It has something to do with the game variants I think.
I've seen so many people asking for a fix to this issue, but have yet to see an answer.
There is a full tutorial on Game Variants, but it fails to mention lobby teams matching in game teams.
Additionally, I know there is a proper way to make this work because many custom games already have it implemented.
