Try to find some maps with great terrain and let it inspire you. I did this when I was making maps for WC3, I used Blizzard's terraining as an inspiration of what doodads go well together etc. Haven't seen many great terrain yet, maybe someone can tell what maps have great terraining as I can do alot better on my maps as well.
I wish there was a "Terrain Show-off" section in the forum. This would really improve our skills and the number of great maps in the community. You have no idea how many potential maps I've dumped due to my inability to design a satisfying template for my map.
Anyway, I would really like to learn a few techniques in constructing beautiful terrain!
I'm currently stuck because I want my map to have two distinct terrain halves (one terran, one protoss) and there's the black wall in the distance (unless farclip is set to an unreasonable number for slow PCs) so both colours have to go well with black and with any ambient lighting...

Any tips or advices regarding terrain designing? I am always weak when it comes to creativity and inspiration.
