So over the last 2 weeks I've been working on my map, and noticed that my map freezes during battle net tests quite early. It never does that when I locally test it, and it freezes at pretty random times. All my new triggers don't do anything at the time of the freeze, and a very large amount of triggers simply didn't have the possibility of firing at the moment of the freeze, so it is extremely unlikely that it's a trigger problem.
Data wise, I added a new hero before this started and she's been used every time, but I haven't used anything that I haven't used before already (apart from a custom mover, which I got directly from Küken's tutorial) and she doesn't cause crashes during local tests (and I've been testing only using her in the last 2 weeks) and the crash occurs randomly a couple of minutes into the game, by which time all her effects and abilities were already used a couple of time without freezing the game.
Anyone have any idea what could cause this? If you need more info, I'll give it, just tell me what you need (I'll provide the map to people I trust if they ask)
Also, I think remember there used to be something with imported sounds ages ago... could that still be a problem? Cause I imported all the Maiev sounds from wc3 for the new hero (Which happens to be Maiev)
Could you give a basic understanding of what the map is? (is it the one in your sig?) anyway, could you walk us through what is happening when you lag? what your triggers are doing, what data is being accessed, etc.
The map is Gates of Garkness, the one in his signature, yes.
It's not that the map itself lags, when we played it on EU Mapnight (this and the last week) it was more like this: We were paying with no problems, then suddenly someone starts lagging... and we all thought oh mybe he disconnected/bluescreend/PC crashed/whatever. But then it happend to me and I was with TheAlmaity and others on vent, so I could tell them that my screen froze for no reason (at the point of the freeze I wasn't doing a thing other than waiting for my hero to revive) I can't remember if I used the taskmanager to kill SC2 or if I got an error report, since it's two weeks ago. After I dropped out of the game (someone dropped before me) another person on vent started lagging and told us that his screen also had frozen for no obvious reason. At the same time I was logged in again and in the sc2mapster chat with the person that was dropped first. Who then told us that he also freezed for no obvious reason. At the end about everyone dropped because of a freeze...
This is a strange thing, which I have not seen before, so far. Usually, its 1 player crashing or everyone crashing at once; I never saw everyone crashing eventually over time.
This does never happen in singleplayer? Have you tested online singleplayer, or only test mode of the editor? Did you test without majev? Did you check memory? Maybe the memory fills up and at some point it cannot handle the game anymore, which could be different for multiple players based on pc configuration and currently running programs.
My SC2 was at about 1 GB of RAM according to my task manager, and I've got about 3.5 GB and had nothing else running that used too much RAM.
Didn't test without Maiev yet, I will try though, and I didn't try online singleplayer yet. two weeks ago when it first happened my variants were broken as well so I was guessing that the map file got corrupted while copying it onto my USB stick (I didn't use the same map file to continue working - When I publish I copy the map from the comp I work on and publish from a different one since my editor here causes the comp to freeze as well while publishing (and unfreezes once I hit the 2 minute timeout), so at first I dismissed the freeze as a one time thing due to a crap map file, which turns out wasn't the case >.> I realized I was screwed only yesterday before writing that post, and I posted it just before I went to sleep.
I'm going to a friends house today so I won't be able to do special bug testing, but I'll make sure to try the map with him at his house. I'll try with and without Maiev if we have the time to try and pinpoint the problem.
Also, I just remember: My Left2Die dependency didn't load in the map, one of the heroes didn't have his model because of it. I'll recheck my dependencies to see if everything is right, but the model is the only thing I used from that dependency.
Yea, its the one in the sig but I havent updated the project page in ages.
Triggers running at the time of my crash: Either none at all, or a revive trigger (Altough I think no one had died yet, cant be sure) and possibly a 5 second periodic trigger that makes sure units are doing what they're supposed to, can't really know whether that one was firing at that time, but it shouldn't have been a problem. Only other possible trigger running is one that applies and upgrade when an ability is leveled up, can't know either since it depends on the others again (I didn't use a learn at that time), but those have worked fine for ages now.
The only thing running data wise that was new was Maiev's shadowstrike ability, I remember seeing the projectile and it's trail frozen on my screen, I think I just casted it, which meant it ran an imported sound, but I used that ability about 10 times prior to the freeze.
If you guys feel like it, you can try the map on EU Battle.net (Gates of Darkness), maybe you can find something I missed. I'll start doing thorough tests tomorrow once I have time. If anyone has more ideas of what could cause this, tell me and I'll make sure to keep an eye on it.
never really heard of too much like this, It couldn't be a memory leak, could it? I'm on US so I cant help you test it. I'll think about this for a bit.

Not sure about the custom sounds.

Hope that helps a bit finding the problem.
So you weren't able to work it out yet?
