Hey guys, I'm new to the editor and I have a few questions, but before that let me tell you what I want to try and make. I'm interested in making a RPG with the typical SC view but have quests, equipment, bags, and what not. Now heres a few questions i have.
1. I cant seem to find a basic tutorial on making a rpg. always get the 3rd person view things and thats not what I'm looking for. triggers and hero/unit making stuff like that.
2. Is it possible to do kinda like a expansion type thing? Something like, You complete the quests and the boss for that map and your char is saved and the expansion type thing allows you to load your char from the first map/area to next map/area and continue the quests and what not. Kinda like your typical mmo's.
Rpg's have been done before so they are indeed possible in every aspect althought there may be some obstacles you'll have to work around. As your your questions I'll start with the easy second one. Information, typical to what you can store in a variable, is saved and passed on between game via banks which is through triggers. Most of the rpg tutorials you'll find will be mostly camera's as that really only one of the few things specific to rpgs style games; but you will also find tutorials for a loot/game system and so on. Triggers are not specific to any game; you will have to learn the basics which can be applied to any game and then think your way through implementing them. Granted it may be a long journey but can be very rewarding if you enjoy it (expect to do a lot of self teaching although there are tons of mappers that are happy to guide you in the right direction). If you are truely interested in starting in triggers i would recommend you look at tutorials in the following subject and order: if thens, variables and arrays, loops, custom action definitions and functions.
thanks for the info. I've never used a map editor and I've been playing the rpg's in the arcade and was like i wanna make one lol. while i think the 3rd person view would be great I more so wanna do the table top view and the movement done by clicking. But I think the trigger will be what slow me down and thats why I'm looking for the help lol

Welcome!
This is certainly possible. Using bank files, you can store players' character data on their computers and then load it in any map you create. The players only need to leave one game that you create and join another.
As for making heroes, there is a quite old tutorial on Youtube by OneTwoSC: They're quite long and thorough so you'll have to play close attention.
