I have made 2 maps for multiplayer, both of which arent on bnet due to the current system. Planning on getting them out there if the system ever changes, but thats not the point of this thread.
Its completely done, but i keep getting that feeling that something is missing. I cant put my finger on it either. I also keep going through the process of coming up with map ideas, starting on it, and saying to myself "The way i do this sucks" and quit. I have about 7 unfinished games lying around due to this.
Anyway, back on the main topic, something is missing. Is it the challenge? By myself i lose on occasion. Is it the depth? Each unit you pick has special abilities and different attack methods, but will people care or just A-move, lose, and quit? I put vehicles in the game. Your chances of winning is slim if you dont use the fast one to get to key areas. Is this bad, or will people see it as neat? Is it a hindrance or a plus?
well, 1st i think you should stop beating your self up. Sometimes what seems simple or bland is actually good because its simple. I think you should make balance changes are change the way the game works depending on how you want it to be. If you want it so that people need to use that one vehicle keep it like that. If you want to go and make it so that theres other viable options go ahead, which ever you find the most fun your self. So if you want it to be a challenge keep it difficult, though make sure its still beatable tho. If you want it to be easier make it easier just try not to make it too easy or else people will beat it w/o a problem everytime and get bored soon.
I think it's pretty common to feel like your project is never finished.
What you should be aiming for, however, is to get your project to a point where you feel comfortable showing a complete stranger your game and not have to explain anything to him about it in order for him to play it.
A tip I can give through experience when I was mapping in WC3, is to start off small, don't start with doing huge projects which need advance stuff, because you're just going to get frustrated each time you reach a new obstacle in an advanced map, and if you do huge projects alone, there is a quite big risk that you get bored halfway through, so if you start by doing short, small maps with a simple idea, you can go from there and improve and improve.

I hate myself sometimes.
I think you have to start with making something that YOU would want to play...
@Nashadun: Go
Everything i come up with is something i would want to play =/. I just feel like it can be much more than it currently is.

Cheer up a bit! My first impression is that it's a lot better than plenty off the stuff people publish nowadays.

At least, that's my opinion.
