In the map I'm working on, I've hidden the default UI and replaced it with some boss bars, a portrait and a dialog with some labels and buttons and the buttons are used to cast spells, one of these being a target-area AoE in the vein of Psi Storm. Is there some way to configure it so that when I press a dialog button it allows me to target the spell as if I had pressed the ability's button or hotkey with the default UI?
In case clarification is needed, I'm referring to getting this thing. I've heard some stuff about a splat actor but I'm not sure how to get this after clicking a dialog button.
only way i know currently is when you click a dialog set a 'weapon type variable' then when you detetct a 'mouse click event' route it to the target of the event with the ability associated with the designated 'weapon type/ability'
Well, I suppose I could live without the targeting image, but at the very least would there be some way to change the cursor between pressing the button and casting the spell, so it wouldn't be too confusing?
haah i was the one that said that. yes its a work around, but its the only one way i know of atm. it really is a downer for 'aoe' cursor type abilities.... you gotta wonder 2 things;
1) why the hell blizzard would give us custom UI capabilities and show us a demo of using it (for non menu purposes) at blizzcon and not use a built in type feature for this.
2) why the hell blizzard wouldnt make the minimap movable to a dialog, by forcing us to make / use a different image and run function to keep updating it slowing shit down in the process (while blizz did this in their demo at blizzcon as well) boggles my mind....
i would get it if they didnt implement these features themselves, likem aybe they would be meaning 'its not meant to be used that way so we never implemented it. but thefact that they themselves did it, and you wouldnt expect blizz to go half ass on a game they take as long as they do to put out.... BOGGLES THE MIND I TELL YA!
There is no "forced spell click" You can't force anything.
You can make a unit cast a spell at a certain point, but how would that make the selection cursor appear (since selection is skipped in that process).
With some luck we'll get a couple of more actions for the final game release.
Otherwise we'll probably have to wait for Heart of the Swarm for new trigger stuff :/

Bump. Anyone?

There's no way of doing so. At least none anyone knows of. There were a couple of discussions about that and all ended rather quickly :/
Awww, okay. :< Well, thanks for telling me, at least.
Maybe u can use the Whats under my mouse thing, ive never tried it, and just create that under it ^_^
I asked the exact same question about a week ago, I got a reply, never got time to give it a try, but maybe it works?

That doesn't make the targeting splat appear. That's only a workaround to the ability buttons.

How about something along the lines of:
Clicking a specific Dialog Button > Spawns a Unit > Player Forced Selects > Unit Forced Spell Click > AoE Targeting Image Created
Has it's drawbacks such as interfering with current unit selection, but viable or?
