How do you go about copying an abilitiy useing the data editor? I can't seem to do it. Everytime i do so there's no effect or anything on the copied abilitiy if i try it out. It doesn't effect anything as to where the orignal works perfectly fine. How do i copy it correctly?
Also, Is there a way to copy over an ability to another map? I'm working on a map with a friend and we have to trade off on who works on it. I wanna be able to copy the abilities i make over to his map without having to trade off files so much.
EDIT: Sorry if this is the wrong section. I just noticed there was another one but i didn't think it was for that data editor.
Try right-clicking and duplicating an ability instead of copy-pasting it.
Make sure you link your abilities properly as well :) You need an unit, a button, an ability, and some effects for the ability.
Unfortunately, I have done this and it still doesn't work. I click Duplicate & select everything in the check boxes but it still doesn't have an effect on any units if i target someone (It's a target spell).
As for linking, I'm not sure.. Maybe there's something extra i gotta do? I've linked the abilitiy to a unit and used the right ability (the copied one) and it doesn't work.
EDIT: Also, When i duplicate the Ability from the Ability tab by (Duplicate). Everything else is fine but when i look in the effects menu i see this..
If you just want to copy the one thing, do not tick ANY of the boxes. This way, your copied ability will still be pointing to all of the old, default actors, etc. You can still go back and copy anything you need to edit later.
Ticking all the boxes makes a copy of everything, forcing you to go through and choose what to link up again.
Try this: First go to the ability and check to see which effect it chooses to call. (with advanced options showing, it's in the field: Effect - Effect). Then go to your Effects section and duplicate this effect along with its actors.
Then go back to the Abilities section and duplicate it, and check to also copy the button to make it easier on you to change its button later. In this new copy, set its "Effect - Effect" field to the last effect that you duplicated.
Some abilities uses certain models of special effects that may or may not look "good" on your unit. I won't go through changing special effects, but I recommend you to go through Riley's ability tutorial to understand how a basic ability is made and each of its components.

@JPLetters: Go
But when i do that, Any changes i make the the old ability effect the duplicated one... Hence killed the idea of "Copying" it..
Also, How do i link something to another? I'm not certain about this.
My goal is to copy the ability and modify it further to make up a different effect (Slow,damage,visual effects) ect out of it.
@NotAVirus: Go
Anyone? :(
Sorry for the bump..
