I know that using Map > Map Info I can set the small/large preview images and I assume these are for the list- and detailed view of the map.
I selected Custom image and provided a tga file - with no success. All I got was a yellow preview image that said "img:" on the top.
Converting the tga image to .dds format using paint.net made the editor crash on file import. Later, I used Aorta to convert the images to .dds and could import them. With this done and the .dds image selected as small/lage preview image the image box in battle.net is now empty. -_-
I see so many preview images so it has to work somehow
Please help, it is so frustrating to get stuck with stuff like this...

@elunder: Go
I have the same problem. I started not using custom images, less effort, and you can actually see it!
Thats not an option for me, since I don't want to reveal my entire map at startup.
I have mappreview image in .dds format that works, but I dont have any experience with paint.net or aorta...
You said you could import the DDS files, can you actually see the image in the import manager?
I personally used Gimp (free software thats kinda like photoshop), and the Gimp DDS plugin
I can save any image format into a DDS format with compression BC3 / DXT5 in gimp, and all buttons, mappreviews loading screens have worked fine.
