I want to make a game that utilizes elements from life of a peasant maps on WC3 such as working/hunting for cash or items which can be sold as cash and player bought houses and vehicles while also including the ranch ownership aspect of harvest moon with constructible rural buildings and farm structures along with crops and animals to harvest from.
A hangup i encounter is in the crop system. I want an item that can be used to spawn a structure with a doodad model (like a vine or a tree) that slowly gains mana then casts a spell to transform into another structure, (the full grown version of the plant) and begins losing health while casting a spell on a long cooldown that spawns a hostile unit at the base of the structure.
This is the best method I can think of to allow for normal plant life cycle. Seeds -> sapling -> adult plant -> produces fruit/vegetables -> adult plant dies.
If anyone could help me come up with how to do this, preferably where the plant is a neutral unit not owned by the player, that woudl be amazing.
I made Villager Life for Warcraft 3, and took me 3 months of work to finish. That's why people don't usually do these maps. It's a lot of work. But I would love to play if you make.

hey i saw this form, i got the answers to all ur farming questions i made the "Harvest moon back to nature" map if you played it,
i have been wanting to work on it again but it got erased, i do know alot of cool ideas i made for it, i can help if you need it, its too easy and simple i made a farm/mining system that you will like, if you want to try it respond to me on SC2

I'm not sure if I follow you, but you could just have a spell on a building that autocasts, and transforms the plant into the next stage.
In its final stage, just give it a behavior that drains life.

Is there a way to get the autocast to turn on without player interaction though? And How would I make a spell to transform one unit into another?

Stage 0 lasts 37 to 43 seconds
Stage 1 lasts some more time
Stage 2 lasts some more time
Stage 3 lasts some more time
After stage 3, the plant is "Ripe"
When killed in "Ripe" it spawns something
A plant needs to be watered or it'll become "Dying" and lose HP
