Trying to make a tower defense game with some original aspects. I need help understanding how to make my tower have custom splash damage. I know how to set damage type to splash but other than that I don't know a damn thing. I want the tower to have a short range but a large radius. I want it to have weak damage but have it fire quickly. Can someone explain the splash fields to me?
search area is the way do design the splash. you can do multiple circles with different damage fractions. take a look at the cannon dmg of a sieged siegetank. it has 3 circles with decreasing dmg.
then you have to search exclude the target or it is going to take double dmg and you may want to add some search filters, a siegetank doesn't do air splash , doesn't kill missiles. this is also the place to disable friendly fire.

are basically all you need.
the dmg type is completely irrelevant. it is only there if you have another effect like the hardened shield of an immortal. it reduces normal, splash and range dmg and not special dmg. a weapon to ignore the hardened shield should do special dmg.
weapon attack speed and range are directly change in the weapon, dmg and splash is in the dmg effect.
Okay I am confused about the search area fields. I went to edit the siege tank to see what they did and i can see how you mean they made 3 circles but I do not understand most of the fields there. Arc, Bonus, Fraction, radius bonus and validator. I am assuming Arc allows it to shoot to a specific degree like 360 being a full circle. Not sure what fraction means. does that have to do with the fraction of damage? if so is it per cent? like the 3rd circle has the largest radius and the smallest fraction, so does that mean that the .25 out of the 100% damage for the largest circle? I think i might understand it a bit. you would either have to do some test numbers and see if it works or be really good with math. A side note, if I wanted to make a shotgun out of a duplicated sniper rifle could I change the range to very close and then use the search field to make one large radius in front of the unit?

you have to use search area effects too. i've made my marauders have a splash damage, i'll be back when i have checked how i did it :)
Make an effect with type Search area and make an area, then set a radius
when you have done that select a damage in the effect box while your area is selected. Then just add the search to the set effect :)
