Hi, since many years it is a dream of mine to see a Multiplayer Version of a Escape Velocity Type game. Its a game where u pilot a space ship, do jobs or kill pirates or trade to get money then u buy a bigger ship and so on.
The game needs several Hundred "Solar-Systems" with 1-5 "Planets" or "Space Stations" in it. And of course a certain number of Ships (players and npc's) A solar system therefore has the approximate size of one big Starcraft 2 Map.
I wonder if the Galaxy editor is capable of the following three things.
1. Making a universe with over 100 "Solar-Systems/Maps" where a player can "warp-jump" in and out (navigation in some kind of universe map). Its like u pick up a mission in one system and then u have to fly/jump a few systems to complete the mission in that system, then go back and get ur reward.
2. Allowing some kind of MMO-Style, which means more than 12 Player playing at the same time. So u can start gather cash buy ship log off, log in the next day and continue.
3. If point 2 doesnt work an alternative could be some kind of save system where a players progress can be saved on his computer in a file and when he joins the game, he already has his earlier aquired ship and stuff. So it would be like in Diablo 2 where u join the world with "only" 12 player but at least u dont lose ur stuff. Just like in a real rpg.
4. Is it possible to implement a macanism that a player can join into an already running game, like one leaves so anotherone can join, like in diablo 2.
Is it theoretically possible to do these things ??
1: Link several maps together in a single player campaign, not sure if it will work on battle.net
Don't see any way to mimic the Hyperion Star Map computer.
2 & 3: Seen other maps store player data then can load that at the start of the map in the next game.
4: Not possible to join an already started game since that is handled by the battle.net lobby system.
You can't create MMOs for SC2 obviously. SC2 multi is for quick games that end in no more than an hour, very different than Escape Velocity. If you want an MMO version of it you can try EVE online.

Theoretically, it is possible to create everything but #4.
The question if someone is going to spend months working on it? I'm not sure.
