when the game will be released, your maps will probably be encrypted in the "publishing" process, thus you don't need to password-protect anything..
indeed. I would mostly honor those who would grant open source, even to only those who would request them. They're the sages of modding, but I wouldn't dislike others who finds the need to protect important.
Especially when they're on the servers.
I personally would share what I can to fellow modders.

My opinion is that anyone who is interested in stealing or reproducing the work of others is not serious enough about map editing to actually be a threat. If they are stealing credit for my work directly, it won't really do any good since they won't be releasing updates and I will, and if my map is that popular to begin with, anyone who cares will probably already know who REALLY made it.
If they are just stealing my ideas or my triggers/data directly (as opposed to learning from my example) then they will probably never be able to use my triggers/data the way they want since they don't understand it well enough to make changes.
Basically, anyone who would resort to trying to steal my ideas is not even worth considering, in my opinion. They won't make it far.

How to protect map with password?
where is it?
There isn't one. Also why? Open source early teaches other people how to make other maps.
