I don't think it's a good idea for you to be stacking them in the first place, would be better to make 1 photon cannon and then just give it an upgrade that add's another photon cannon weapon. This isn't starcraft 1, the photon cannon's aren't 2d screenshot's, they are full 3d models, each instance of them is very performance heavy.
If you want a simpler idea, you could instead try making 2 photon cannons, one with a model and one without one. Then just give the photon cannon with a model an ability to make another photon cannon directly on top of itself, but it never has any model so it just acts as an invisible unit.

I'm in the process of finishing my map but the photon cannons are causing too much lag. (They are stacked multiple times)
Is there a way to reduce/remove/scale down the idle animations in order to save computer resources?
Or is there another/better way of doing so?
