Here you have a plain map, with all visible doodads.
They are set kind of randomly but with the select mode you can always see the name in the bottom right window of the editor.
For some of you this might be helpfull for some not. I just had some spare time on my hands :)
Well, I am making a huge picture with all doodads so, we won't have to always change the active document or just have to look at every doodad around the map while you probably miss some. By making a picture, you will see all the doodads in the doodads plus the name of everyone.
Once done, I'll probably post it here. And maybe a few place around. I fear this picture is going to be alot used and easily spread through the internet and all the mapmaker.
I would love to have that picture, navigating doodads is a pain in the ass :D.
PS: Note that some doodads change depending on terrain. For example, platform doodads get blue stuff when placed on Castanaar, and protoss statues have 4 variations for each planet: Bel'shir, Monlyth, Shakuras and Zhakul'das.
Some doodads change skin in relation to the tileset they are on. Just try to place rock on Bel'shir tileset and Char tileset. Or protoss statues, like Lonami said. :)
Edit: I added screenshots with Protoss banner and Rock Giant doodads.
It is something very interesting to know, but way to long to take in consideration. This would mean to try every doodads on all the different tileset to know if there is difference. So, I'll just make the picture to show all the possibilities but not the "skin" variations.
I've worked hard and few hours to get the LOS folder and the Environment folder completed. It is a long work and it is only about 50% done. I wonder if I should put my name on them and show that it is for the community of Sc2mapster. Caus I'm almost sure it will spread around once it will be know.
If you see any mistakes, please say it to me. There might be some pictures with the green selection circle (mostly for the LOS firsts pictures). I might eventually get this corrected to have perfect pictures. I might also split the next folder into 2 pictures because my computer was hardly working on the Environment huge picture. And also for an lighter weight since more the image is huge, more it weight is big.
As a simple question, would you use these pictures to easily find doodads?

Don't forget how Shakuras changes a wholeeee lot of protoss' doodad's glows into orange. such as the temple statues, props, protoss decals, temple statue inlay. even small plants changed their glows O_o etc2. I just figured this out a couple days ago.
This will have to be taken in consideration for the creator, that some doodads might change skin depending of the terrain he is using. I won't do the skin variation pictures, there are enough doodads like that....
I fail to see the point of this because any model can be made into a doodad and you can look at all doodad model variations in the object viewer. There is also an option that allows you to see such stuff when selecting for the models data type.
As for the skins changing colour, that is due to the Actor - Texture Sets field.

Actually, this picture is not for Data editing and playing with actors or w/e. This is to have a global view of every doodads when making a map or in my case, Weekly Terraining Exercices.
Also, I don't think you can see the models all at the same time and rapidly find something you search that you don't know the name.
I'll first make all the normal doodads and then look around for the other models. We wil generally use the Doodads first before looking around for units that could become doodads because they look nice. It is not everybody that know how to use the Data editor to "create" more doodads with units.
I'm not good in Data editing, so things like "validators" I don't really know how it works.
I have not skipped any doodads. I know though that some are not in the right order because I started making my picture before I set the dependencies with Campaign. I just take a look if I had every doodads and if not, I added them to where I was. After these, they are all in order.
If you think one is missing, say it and I'll verify and add it.
As I said in other post: " It is a long work and it is only about 50% done."
If you look at the picture's name, you see that ONLY the LOS/pathing/cliff and the Environment folder are done. None of the Structure or other folder are done. So it is normal that you don't find the "Biodomes" or the "Signs" or the "Monorail" caus they will be in another picture.
That's my goal, but actually it is not made to be printed. I used 72ppi which is the normal resolution for screen. But for good printing, 200+ is much better (but for huge images, this is too much asked for my poor computer). Still, if you want to print them, feel free. I'll try to make next pictures stick to 100 squares. 20 rows of 5 large. Since this is really long and I have a poor pc, then, I do one picture, often. When I want. If I had something faster I would probably make these much faster since it could be usefull to anybody interested in terraining, which means, alot alot of people.

What do you mean by "change depending on terrain"? Depending of the textures or the planet itself? Could you give an example?

Trouble is there is a load of models that can be made into good doodads (just like some doodads make good units). Make it every model or nothing.

Ever tried using validators to tweak actor responses? Also you seem to have skipped alot of campaign doodads.

So only 12 more to go?
