Hello there. I need some help with making a calldown drop, either as a hero ability or just an event that happens somewhere in the mission. The goal is to have a dropship land - like the one when you call down the MULE from Cmmand Center(or if there's some dropship campaign model that would work aswell) and unload a marine or two. I'm sure there's a way to do it, just can't figure out how. Help with either or both(hero ability and/or an event/action) would be lovely.
- race - terran (or the same race as unit which will cast it)
-field values: copy from (orbital command calldown mule)
2. Create a button - name it whatever you want
race - terran (the same as ability)
copy from original droppod button
2. in the ability
(top of the tree - ability itself):
"(none) Range" - i gave it 10
"Combat - Auto Cast Filters" - check ally and player too (i dont know if that changes something).
3. Effects:
Calldown: MULE (create unit)
- "Data - Spawn Count" - here as many units as you want (i gave 2)
- "Data - Spawn Unit" - what unit should spawn (i set it to be marine)
Calldown: MULE (final set) - "Effects - Effects" - remove "Calldown MULE (Timed life)" [or leave it if these units should be temporary] and "Calldown MULE (Issue Order)"
Now pick a unit you want to have this ability (for me it is thor).
Edit the unit itself:
1. "(none) - command card" and add button of your new ability wherever you want.
Command Type - Ability
Requirements - none (if you want some you will have to make a requirement too)
Ability - Marine Drop (or whatever you named it)
Ability Command - Calldown: MULE
Now my thor call calldown droppods with marines. The only issue tho is that i made the ability spawn 2 marines and it makes 2 drop pods... But that's a smaller issue.
I experimented with this too but couldnt figure it out but how can i change the calldown Mule command like that i dont need give it a target and let it come down right next to the Caster just by clicking on the Icon?
hmm i can make it to land next to the casting unit.
to do that change "data - location" in "calldown mule (create unit)" to "source unit/point". The problem is that you still have to click. I'm working on that now, but i can't find where you can set it so it launches without you clicking a target...
Dont want to revive an old thread but I recently started on a map that needed this type of ability aswell. And needed it to spawn the units without a target. Solve it after a while so I thought I'll share it here:
- Create a new ability (I called mine MarineSpawn) type : Effect-Instant
- Create a new effect (I called mine SpawnMarine (Create Unit)) type: kinda obvious but yeah Create Unit type.
- Change the effect's "Data - Locations +" field to "Caster Point". Also choose the Unit to spawn in the Data - Spawn Unit field.
- Add the Effect to the ability in the Ability's (None) - Effect field. Also choose a button in the (None) - Commands field. You can create a new one or use an existing one.
- Then just add the ability to the unit that you want to have it.
This will instantly spawn the unit at the castersPoint. So if you want the droppod to actually drop down I believe you can use the other effects from "Calldown MULE".

ok I made the action/effect after some tedious tries, still no idea how to do the ability for a hero though.
Ok, here's how i've made that:
1. new ability (lets name it "MArine Drop" here)
2. Create a button - name it whatever you want

Yeah i managed it like this too (drop it next to caster but with clicking) but still nothing new on my side for letting it drop on Iconclick. :/
