I'm looking to make a map where either opposing players can gain control of a neutral Drakken Laser Drill in the same fashion that the Xel'Naga Towers work. Does anyone know how to do this?
Originally I tried just adding the Drakken laser beam to the Xel'naga Tower itself but it was neither functional nor as cool as commanding a giant laser drill. Please help, it's the only variable left I need to figure out to finish my map!
You can open up the Xel'Naga tower map and see how Blizzard did it.
I don't really know what the specifics are on the drill you're talking about, but I imagine it's a unit. If it's a unit, you can always attach a circle region to it and create an entered region event trigger to give ownership according to some conditions. If it's a fixed location drill, even just manually making a region on top of it should work.
does this help you out? i tried to explain it as understandable as i could.
This was something i wrote for somebody else on another forum.. there IS of course an action that is supposed to set it for you, but i found this first lol..
Thank you for all the responses. I had actually figured it out a short time after posting... how ironic. The interesting thing though is clearly there are multiple ways to the same task completed. My solution is different than both of yours:
I gave my drill the ability "tower control" then I changed the drills flag (found under Stats- Flags) to allow "shared control." Seems to work just fine, and whats nice is if two different players of the same team both have a unit in proximity they both have control of the drill. Pretty sweet!

@Mohumasta: Go
Okay so first place the unit and make it any player( i made it neutral) other than a player you want capturing the unit..
Second, make the EVENT- that if a unit enters the range of "unit you have placed"
Third.. make the ACTION - set ownership of "unit you have placed" to triggering player = true..
my placed unit was karass.. as you see in the trigger i made below...
The 1.0 in the event is the range.
EVENT:
TriggerAddEventUnitRange(null, Karass [33.64, 37.41], 1.0, true)
ACTION:
UnitSetOwner(Karass [33.64, 37.41], (EventPlayer()), true)
if you wanted more units to be captured when you come in contact with the first unit, just copy the action.. like so...
EVENT:
TriggerAddEventUnitRange(null, Karass [33.64, 37.41], 1.0, true)
ACTION:
UnitSetOwner(Karass [33.64, 37.41], (EventPlayer()), true)
UnitSetOwner(Marine [33.64, 37.43], (EventPlayer()), true)
UnitSetOwner(Marine [33.64, 37.45], (EventPlayer()), true)
UnitSetOwner(Marine [33.64, 37.47], (EventPlayer()), true)
UnitSetOwner(Marine [33.64, 37.49], (EventPlayer()), true)
does this help you out? i tried to explain it as understandable as i could.

Make a Region,
Setup a trigger event to go off when a unit enters the region
Have an action to change the controller of the Drill.
