Recently I discovered that the editor crashes immediately after selecting an imported model in the import section. I don't know when this may have started as I haven't used the importer in quite some time. I've tried importing a number of known working models and used previous maps with things already imported. It still will crash shortly after the model is selected. Textures don't have this issue. I'm not sure how to solve this issue and unfortunately the map I'm working requires imported models... So I'm kinda screwed unless anyone has a solid solution.
I'm having this issue even attempting to preview default game assets. Any usage of the model previewer, doesn't matter what it's looking at, immediately crashes the editor. I've also noticed models with very short Stand animations (doodads, etc.) tend to cause the crash faster, whereas models with lengthier Stand animations have a very short delay.
That's strange. I managed to fix mine by essentially restarting my computer (what i did was more complicated but they should have the same effect). Anyway I'd try restarting PC if you haven't already, if that doesn't work than you may want to try and get blizz's attention or re install the editor. I can't imagine why default assets would crash it.
Does your computer have low RAM? I believe the CE part of the editor uses a fair bit compared to other aspects.

Oh, boy, that's a problem I was hoping to avoid.
Unfortunately, motherboard issues prevent me from restarting my computer to avoid this. I've been running for about two months straight and shutting down is a massive, unfair gamble that my computer will fail POST when I start it up again. Complicating this further is my limited (or, rather, non-existent) budget for new parts; I'll be lucky if I even get anything for Christmas.
Regardless, the advice is appreciated. This issue's been nothing but a massive tide of frustration for me.
Phewee... Had same issue, looking at ANY model (and i donĀ“t have any except the original ones), crashed the editor, but simply restarting does seem to have fixed it.
Lol, I just had this weird issue. And even shutting down the computer didn't help, only restarting (probably it's more fundamental in terms of what part of the session is being saved for quick start).

@JacktheArcher: Go
Maybe one of the models is corrupted?
@EchoedRequiem: Go
Yea probably. Let me go check. Nope there not corrupt that's weird.
Problem not solved still looking for help.
I have the same problem with model of Wow model viewer,
List: -Chen Stormstout, Illidan (all forms), Tyrael pet, Pandaren serpent god and mount, Yak god, Thrall, Garrosh Hellscream and more...
So if someone know what is the problem can you help us?
sorry for my bad english.
Yea, I've had this happen to me too with imported wow models, I think at a time I just broke map into components and manually erased problem model. :\
@DuckyTheDuck: Go
Yea but even importing into a fresh map with known working models doesn't help.

UPDATE: No way....i just reboot my computer and everything work fine again, except animation on model run super quick in the previers

Just saving the map does it for me "sometimes".
