So I'm finishing up a unit testing map that's got some terrain set up for testing of realistic situations for players to try out different unit compositions and different micro strategies, etc. I have a building where you can research all in-combat upgrades for units. Or at least, I did. The buttons no longer show up for some reason. I had it all set up and working with my own abilities that contained all the necessary upgrades and had the command cards that referenced those abilities and the individual upgrades, but none of the buttons are showing up anymore, except for one of them. The only difference between the one that does show up and the one that doesn't is it's from the Merc Compound research ability, but that really shouldn't matter because I've set all mine up the same way with the proper requirements for each upgrade.
I hadn't worked on this map for a long time, however. Is there something with a patch that screwed up the way they worked that I need to go fix?
Also, how would I go about making a dummy ability to use with triggers? Do I have to add a dummy effect to the ability?
One thing to check is the command flags, namely 'show in glossary' and the button state (available/repressed/suppressed). Another is to just check the command cards and make sure the buttons are still linked to abilities.
Also, yes, for a dummy ability to do anything, there needs to be a dummy effect.
If you want specific aid for your map, you may want to post it.
Sounds like you messed up some requirements. From the sounds of it you modified existing melee data so probably with the patch it defaulted to the original value.
Ok, so I don't understand this at all. The dummy ability I was trying to make was somehow preventing all the upgrades from showing. After I removed it from the unit's ability list, they all magically showed up again. I also literally went through each field in raw text comparing the reaper upgrade from the merc compound and my upgrades and everything checked out.
Every time I try to add the dummy ability it suppressed all the upgrades but the reaper speed.
Apparently it was because it was typed as an Effect ability instead of an Effect - Instant ability. Changing that not only fixed the upgrades (though why the hell was the Reaper one still there?) it made my trigger work.
