I'm using the Hurricane Battlecruiser model for a unit. A new model, actor, and unit was made for it. In-game, missiles shot at it does not hit the actor, but instead at the location of battlecruiser when the launch effect occurred, which is to say missiles and impact effects do not follow or play on the actor. My first thought was maybe that I set up the data for this unit incorrectly, but when I changed the Art: Model of model to carrier, weapons behave and impact the actor normally. In the previewer/cutscene editor I can clearly see it has a good number of attachment points, so that can't be an issue.
I know this is a common problem with WoW models, and there have been a good number of threads made on this issue. However none have provided a straight answer without the use of 3DsMax, which would be unnecessary here since the Hurricane is a SC2 model.
My second question ties in with the first. A number of other units on my map uses SOp to attach models, but what is being attached doesn't seem to overwrite existing attachment points on the host actor model when attacked. How do I set up the data for missiles to hit attachment points on SOp-attached models?
tl;dr: How do I set up an unused model like Hurricane BC, and SOp-attached models, to connect with weapons impactFX?
You can fix the Hurricane by adding a new entry in the Attachment Properties + of the model. Select ID -> Center , Squib Type -> Shield and add a Radius Target -> 1.5 (Shield Radius if you should need it).
As for attached models, I am not sure how to do that. You can do the same thing you did for the Hurricane and play around with the target radius, however this will not guarantee an impact on the attachments, just random impacts within the given radius. If you match it up visually, it could be enough, depending on your application.
If the radius is not exact enough for you, you can define multiple radii at different attachment points of the main model, however you cannot use site operations here, as far as I am aware.
Thanks. The attacks are now tracking. I think as long as weapons track the target, tinkering with target radius is good enough for weapons to look like they're also hitting SOp attached models.
This thread tells me that an attachment done your way allows a non-protoss unit to have a shield impact model. I'm not seeing it on the hurricane though. I tried it on a default battlecruiser, and aside from some error messages each time a weapon hit, the shield impact model is showing up. Is there something I need to do for it to show up on the hurricane?
Edit: It's showing up. Just had to increase the target and shield radius.
Two likely simple questions.
